Andrew Davies
Hello I have used the stair tool to create a stair and really like the handrails that came with it by default. How can I get the same handrails on a flat surface? I have tried the Railing tool (in Landmark) but they seem to be different? I am on VWX Designer 2017 Many thanks in advance! zoomer
Hmmh, I think it should be possible to model the same way with the new Railing Fence Tool : 1 Quote Link to comment

Andrew Davies
Thanks Zoomer I found a post on this forum (which I should have posted this question in - sorry) saying the new Railing Fence tool replaces the need to add handrails to stairs / ramps etc and can automatically add handrails to slabs (for example) Can't for the life of me find out how. The post I mention had a video but that video showed off the new resource browser. Quote Link to comment
Andrew Davies
Maybe the railing fence tool I am looking at is the wrong one? I've tried the one in the landmark toolbox Quote Link to comment

Andrew Davies
Ahhh - thanks. Must be a better way? Quote Link to comment
zoomer
Well, the (new) Stair Tool doesn't always produce the railing as you would expect, especially when your stair is more complex. You can avoid these problems by building your own custom railings with the new 2017 railings/fence tool. But I think that is still quite tedious and I would try in stair tool first, if any possible. Because of your post I recognized that I hadn't had railings/fence tool in my Workspace. It was hidden in "Objects" and I put it in my tool palettes again. You have to look for "handrails/fence" tool. There is also a "guardrail" tool, which I think is the old legacy predecessor which may not be as capable as the new tool. (Ah, that is something else ... the thing for motorways ....) Edited July 10, 2017 by zoomer 1 Quote Link to comment
Andrew Davies
Many thanks for your help with this. Just popped out for a coffee but will check it out as soon as I am back. Best wishes Andrew Quote Link to comment
Andrew Davies
Thanks for your help Zoomer - your posts were really useful. Just to be 100% sure - this is the tool I should be using, correct? Quote Link to comment
zoomer
Yes, that's the Tool. I thought there may have been an older Tool before, searched through Workspace Manager but it seems it is the only tool for railings. Not sure if Guardrails for streets have ever been able to be set to produce any simple handrails. The Handrails/Fence Tool is a german development like the regular stair tool. So I would expect it to be able to produce the same handrails as the stair tool can. 1 Quote Link to comment
