Export Webview

VerhoevenJ

Question

Hi,

I work for a big company in Belgium. I want to start to use Webview, at this point the server to upload the webview gets blocked. I am trying to convince the network specialist to open the connection.

While this is happening is there another way to get my webview on the Vectorworks server?

maybe with NOMAD?

I redesigned my main symbol bib so the geometry is less complex. Now the 3D files are created in Nomad and the Cloud services website.

Now the problem is that the GPU of most of the computers is only 450mb dedicated memory. The 3D file's aren't displayed or if they do it is very slow to navigate. Are there system requirements to see the Webview?

Is there a possibility to upload the files to a server and that the viewing of the file's is generated through the GPU of the server and are there people who have already done this?

Hey @VerhoevenJ,

I'm not sure about the system requirements for Nomad, but for the Web View it mostly depends on the size of your model and the device you are using. On my Samsung Galaxy S6 in Chrome, I am able to display models that are over a million faces. There are problems at the moment viewing these files via Safari, so I would stay away from that at the moment.

There is the option to export locally, in which those files in the local export can be placed on a server. I have seen some customers do something similar to this. But whenever you view the file, the device always downloads the content whenever you open a link. So the GPU that will be used to view the Web View will be the GPU of the device the client is using, not the one of the server.

Hope this helps.

Good luck!

Andrew

Thnx,

I thought that this was not possible. We work a lot with RDP so maybe our IT guys can search for an solution through RDP.

It is no problem with our Mac computers it is just the problem with the Windows computers. We work with ±30 representatives so i don't think they will buy 30 workstations with a lot of GPU. For me there's no problem now i can ask for a Macbook pro and do my plan proposals this way. 😀

Andrew,

Can I ask what the problems using Safari are? I've been using Web View successfully on my Mac and my iPhone. If my clients might encounter problems it would be good to know what they might encounter.

Thanks,

Kevin

@Kevin McAllisterThe problems mainly have to do with timing out and model sizes. For some models, the web page will time out since it is taking such a long time to download the model, and the web page is not being updated.

Also there is an issue where if you attempt to view the entire model full screen, there is significantly more lag than if you resize the window to a smaller size. Chrome and Firefox do not seem to have this problem.

We hope to address these problems sometime in the future.

Andrew
