Detail Section to show Viewport annotations

bc

Question

So I have a Section Viewport (SVP) on a Sheet Layer.

There are annotations in the SVP.

I have created a Detail Viewport of the SVP.

How can I get the Detail Viewport to show what is annotated in the SVP?

Some setting/preference I need to check? Or is this not possible?

Also in a related issue:

Over a non-cropped SVP on a sheet layer I placed a crop object and tried to create a viewport from that (to maybe workaround the Detail Viewport issue). No joy.

Error message says I have attempted to create a viewport of a cropped viewport...but in the Object Info Palette it says:

Crop---NO

Thanks for any help.

When you choose to create a detail viewport form a section viewport, it does not copy the annotations. You could copy and paste them, but that will not automatically update both when you make a change.

I know this isn't what you asked for, but have you thought about using Linked Viewports instead. I have written a few tips on linked Viewports:

The Detail Viewport is really another viewport and will only pick things up from the Design Layer(s). It has its own Annotations. One workaround would be to cut and paste the desired Annotations from the Sheet Layer VP into the Detail VP Annotations, having to adjust for scale differences.

The other thing you were trying won't work either, unfortunately. Can't really say why---but Annotations would not be carried over anyway (unless they were in the Design Layer).

Thanks all, I thought this might be the case.

Thank you Jonathan, that's great stuff.

I think it best now to stay the course this late in our project and copy/paste and hope for the best.

But indeed on the next one. Thanks again.
