Phil hunt
If I dimension a plan on my viewport using annotations and then change my plan on the design layer will it update the dimension back on the viewport. Tried it but doesn't seem to do so or should I be dimensioning on my design layer first. Thanks. Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted March 4, 2016 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted March 4, 2016 It should if the dimensions are associated in the annotations of the viewport, but only to a certain extent. If you adjust the lengths of walls that already existed for instance it should adjust, but not if you completely replaced windows, doors, walls etc. Quote Link to comment
Phil hunt
Hi Jim It was an extruded polygon it was 3000mm wide x 500deep extruded to 2400mm I placed a dimension on the 500mm side but changed it to 800mm on my design layer expecting it to change one I had updated the viewport but it didn't update Will the dimensioning in viewports only sometimes change on walls. Art V
Jim, I've found that viewport annotation dimensions do not always adjust properly upon changes on the design layer, even if they are associated. Could it be that the somewhat cumbersome snapping to dimension insertion points instead of the actual object (has been complained about by others before) is the culprit? Or are there other issues to be aware of, e.g when it comes to extruded 3D objects? Quote Link to comment
Phil hunt
I did go back and re dimension the extrusion after looking JP podcast on the subject but Jonathan only dimensioned walls so can anyone tell me if this only works with associated dimensions on walls. bcd
Associated dimensions only work with 2d / hybrid objects. If you can use a Floor or Slab object rather than an extrude it should work. In fact, you can make the changes to the Associated Dimension right there in the Viewport Annotation and the objects will move appropriately in the Design Layer. Quote Link to comment
