Mattheng
I was interested to read that OpenGl would now use the HDRI backgrounds that Renderworks has been using for years. It does appear, however, that if you pick any of the VW default HDRI backgrounds OpenGl just puts the physical background in. Main problem with this is the horizon is very prominent. I have been using backgrounds with no horizon to get round this. Interestingly this does not apply to third party HDRI backgrounds which all seem to work perfectly. Any ideas? rDesign
I'm not sure I fully understand, is it just that the horizon line in a VW default HDRI is at a higher elevation than in a third-party HDRI? Some screenshots might help explain what you're seeing more clearly. Quote Link to comment
Mattheng
Ok here are a couple of picture of what I mean: First is a basic scene with an HDRI background with no horizon rendered in Custom Renderworks. It is one of the standard VW HDRI backgrounds. And second is the same scene rendered in OpenGL To be clear, Custom Renderworks is showing the correct background and OpenGl is not. zoomer
And you have set that background to OpenGL by View Menu ? Quote Link to comment
Mattheng
Zoomer, Really not sure what you mean by that. You can't set the Renderworks background just for OpenGl anywhere, you just set it for all render modes. At least you do on my version of Vectorworks (2016 Landmark) I set the Renderworks background to an HDRI sky with no horizon and then just rendered it in OpenGl and Custom Renderworks. These are the images in my previous post. I changed nothing except the render mode from OpenGl to Custom Renderworks. To be completely clear, if you have a command for setting a background for just OpenGl, as opposed to all other Renderworks modes, I would be very interested to know where it is because I have never found it....? Matt ps and yes the command I used for the Renderworks Background is under the View menu Edited October 12, 2015 by Mattheng Quote Link to comment
zoomer
I thought these 2 options in View Menu is new for 2016. To set OpenGL Background and to set Ambient light strength for OpenGL. Edited October 12, 2015 by zoomer Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Dave Donley Posted October 13, 2015 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted October 13, 2015 Hi: There is a bug that is fixed in a future service pack, where if a viewport is selected when you edit a RW background that the OpenGL background is incorrect. The background shown for OpenGL is some other background rather than the one you edited. The wrong background shown here might have come from that bug. If you edit the RW background and change any parameter then press OK in the dialog then the OpenGL background should be reset and work properly. You can try that, hope it helps. Quote Link to comment
zoomer
Zoomer, Really not sure what you mean by that. Yes, I think we have totally different workflows. As I started with VW 2014, I never used the "Custom RW Style". For a blank file I just render a view with one of the standard RW Styles. That Style is than copied to file and can be found in Resource Browser. I will immediately rename and change all settings to my needs. This will be the source for all other Style Copies I do. (So I always thought I am working with Custom RW Styles) Normally I did not use "View" from Menu. Just the Drop Downs and my Styles. I just started in VW 2016 with both new (?) settings to set OpenGL only, for brightness and background. I have no clue that the Custom RW Style could set backgrounds for OpenGL too Quote Link to comment
