rDesign
It's a function of not being able to set the YZ-axis orientation during OBJ import; Some 3D file formats use Y-up while others use Z-up. When importing and exporting OBJ files, there should be a check box to 'Swap YZ Orientation' to fix this problem. Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted September 21, 2015 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted September 21, 2015 I see that a lot when importing STL files into slicing applications for 3D printing, I had assumed something like that was going on. Submitting that as a wishlist item now for OPJ, STL and 3DS, the three formats I've come across this with previously. Quote Link to comment
rDesign
FBX is another format where I've seen this. Quote Link to comment
zoomer
As an Example, Modo and Cinema are using these "wrong" Y-Up-Axis. Additional these differ in clockwise/counterclockwise direction. In Modo in Top Plan View Z-Axis goes "down". 3DS, coming from 3DSMax, should be ok as Max had a normal CAD coordinate system. Quote Link to comment
rDesign
It also occurs in IGES and STEP files. Along with OBJ, STL, 3DS — that pretty much covers almost all of the file import types (with the exception of COLLADA). Quote Link to comment
