i have just increased the scale on my layer plan from 1:200 to 1:50

it has symbols on the drawing but they do not scale from the original scale to the new scale but everything else does......i have all apply to all layers checked

any ideas thanks

This is in the insertion settings for the symbols themselves, I believe they can be set to Page Based or World Based.

i have tried inserting on "world-based" that but then the symbols decrease in size on the same layer to half the size......

i think when creating the symbol you have to chose world based at source

i don't think you can change it after if you didn't choose this option when creating the symbol

Try this:

Change the design layer scale by a factor of 2

Edit the symbol insertion option from page to world

reset the design layer scale

Thanks, that works but I would have thought it would have made more sense that a symbol would automatically change scale without having to change a setting......on creation must be a good reason !

Page based symbols are intended to display at the same size regardless of the layer scale they are on. You might want this for something like a title block or an annotation symbol.

World based symbols are intend to display at their "real" size regardless of the page scale. This is for objects like doors, windows, furniture, etc.

Different settings for different purposes.
