Markvl
Can anyone tell me how I might reduce the list of walls available in vectorworks to only ones I use when I hit the walls tool and search thru the drop down list. There are a lot that I will never use and I find they get in the way to quickly finding what I want. I understand how to use walls and import and export under the resources palette. Thanks, Mark Edited September 5, 2014 by Markvl Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted September 5, 2014 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted September 5, 2014 Under Vectorworks2014\Libraries\Defaults\Walls~Slabs If you remove all of those files, or put them elsewhere, Vectorworks will not load the default styles at all. If you edit them, you can add/remove whichever individual wall styles you like to customize your list. There are plans to reduce the number of styles in this default list since its a bit much. Markvl
Thanks JimW. I forgot to mention that I currently have 2010 but I get the gist of it. Quote Link to comment
zoomer
Won't these files get overwritten by the next service pack ? Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted September 8, 2014 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted September 8, 2014 (edited) Only if the service pack modified the content files. SPs don't normally reset/refresh every file. This doesn't usually occur without it being listed in the release notes. But yes, there is a chance the default files could be wiped during updates/reinstalls, best to make backups of your customized versions. Eventually all the customization will take place in the User folders so the patches wont mess with them at all, but for now some customizing still has to be done in the application folder directly. Pat Stanford
As an add-on to what Jim said, you should understand that there are three locations where the "Default Content" comes from. There is the base stuff provided by the program in the Applications folder in the path listed above. There is a "Workgroup Folder" that can contain the same folder structure as in the Applications folder that can be shared between multiple people. Finally there is your User Folder. Again it can have the same structure as the defaults in the applications folder. If you are taking the time to edit this, I recommend storing the edited file in either the User or Workgroup folder so it will not be subject to future overwrites with a new service pack. If a service pack does replace the file you are interested it it will be much easier to just delete/move it rather than having to figure out how to edit it again. Quote Link to comment
