texturing stringers

Recommended Posts

By "Stringer" do you mean a Framing Member object? If so then the answer is no, you cannot set the rotation of a texture on a framing member. With most 3d Objects in VW's (like Extrudes, Sweeps, etc) you can set the texture rotation, orientation and mapping type in the OIP (Render Tab). But unfortunately not with framing members...

Hi Steve

No - it's really difficult to get to these parts to do any sensible mapping. The way around it is to either ungroup the stair (not desirable as it forgets it's a Stair), or you could use the Extract tool to extract a planar surface so that you could just put the texture on there.

Nice to see you again last week.

Hope that helps

Thanks Tamsin,

interestingly the extract tool does not work on a stringer which I guess because its a group. The answer was just to draw a poly around it and then map it locally. Not ideal (as you need four - one for each side).

I really enjoyed last week and picked up more information than I first thought as when I returned to work I changed some of my workflow processes to mirror Marks and they helped me a lot

thanks again
