anthony lynn
Just a simple question, why can't I extrude detailing tool set. None of the i beams want to extrude for me, I keep getting a fault saying (Their were objects selected that were locked or are illegal in extrudes and sweeps. They have been deselected) I dont know what objects they are referring too. Please help! Thanks Anthony Quote Link to comment
Damon Design
Input all the parameters (if custom) you wish in the OIP of the I-Beam, then select>modify>convert>convert to group (or better, duplicate and convert to group to maintain the easier edit-ability of the original's OIP functionality), this will convert it to a polyline and then you will be able to extrude to your heart's content. CipesDesign
Or better yet, use the Framing Member plug in (which creates a 2d/3d hybrid object). Set to "Steel Section", then choose the I beam size you desire. Set length by dragging or entry in the OIP. Quote Link to comment

Kevin McAllister
I don't have Vectorworks in front of me at the moment, but if memory serves me correctly many of the detailing tools have a 3D version of the tool nested below the 2D version on the Tool Box. There is definitely a 3D I-beam tool as an example. Kevin Quote Link to comment
