Zeynep
got a problem.... I draw nurbs surface obj.as in the picture, tried all of 3d conversion tools (shell,push/pull...)but thickness does not, error message=>shell creation failed. Is there another way to create this obj? added a file thanks Quote Link to comment
Horst M.
if you cut the Surface in the middle, you can shell the slices The question is: how to avoid that the creapy cutting tools cuts the whole world in pieces?? Edited August 10, 2011 by Horst M. Quote Link to comment
Horst M.
Hallo, I found the point, that causes the Shell tool to fail. Your Nurbs surface ist overlapping itself in a Part. If you change that you can shell it without cutting it. (I hope...) regards Horst M. Edited August 10, 2011 by Horst M. Quote Link to comment
Zeynep
Hi:) I used split tool to cut Nurbs Surface in the middle but is closed Vectorworks 2011 Application.I dont know why. By the way in the object, right and left ends up,middle ends down towards. What is the easiest way to create this shape? Edited August 10, 2011 by Zeynep Quote Link to comment
Benson Shaw
Easiest way to draw depends on what you know about points and desired result, but here are a few ideas: Draw plan view as 2d object with splines, arcs, etc. Compose, and Convert to NURBS Switch to off axis view, select points to move, and adjust heights with OIP Or If you know the xyz of most points, place loci and connect with NURBS, compose. Or Is this a path or road? Create a site model from proper contours or survey point cloud. Draw path/road in plan view with 2d tools. then either Send to Surface, or Object from Polyline>Texture Bed Other ways, too -B Quote Link to comment
michaelk
if you cut the Surface in the middle, you can shell the slices The question is: how to avoid that the creapy cutting tools cuts the whole world in pieces?? Select the geometry you want to cut. Select the split tool. Hold down the Option Key (Mac) (Alt Key on a PC?). This will cause the split tool to work on only the selected objects. hth mk Quote Link to comment
Horst M.
Thanks for the advice. I didn't know that. Nomally I group the Componets that shoud be cut. But Zeyneps File had just one Object, that I wanted to Split in 2, in the Middle. But this can't be done with the Split tool. In Zeyneps Nurbs Surface Example you can see what the Problem is. See screenshot attached. Quote Link to comment
Benson Shaw
Zeyneps - Split tool applied to middle of your shape does not crash VW on my system. Horst - Good point. I thought Point mode of the Split Tool would work this, but it still splits into 10 surfaces. I think it would be helpful to start over on this shape and develop it with fewer points, tangent curves, and lower degree on the surface. Update. I can make a similar shape with NURBS curves, but if any of the vertices are off plane, the Create NURBS Surface command always fails. Still thinking about it. -B Quote Link to comment
Benson Shaw
You need the kind of NURBS surface with vertex control, as offered by lofts. Click through the layers to see how I did this. -B Quote Link to comment
Zeynep
Thanks for the advice At last everything is back on track. ...thanks to you. Quote Link to comment
