Creating Site Model from DWG

HI Everyone!

I am a brand new Vectorworks user and I would appreciate any help you can give me!

I am trying to create a site model from imported County planimetric data in a DWG form. The contours already have 3D data associated with them. Not all of the data in my file was 3D to start with, but I imported the entire file as '3D objects.' I made sure that the units were correct, that the conrours had the correct Z values and that it came in at the right size. I turned off everyhing excelt the contours, spot elevations and contour labels. I then ran 'Validate 3D Data' and addressed those issues. Then I ran 'Create Site Model.' A site model was created, but the only thing that shows up is the contours; I have tried to change the look of the model by going to 'Site Model Settings' and trying '3D triangles' or 'Mesh' and nothing changes. I also tried to apply a photographic texture and nothing noticable happened.

Does anyone have any ideas? It's probably something very simple, but I'm not seeing it. Ultimately, I want to be able to create a site model, add an aerial photograph texture to it, create a proposed highway interchange model, and create an animation of the model. It's a lot for a new user to bite off!

I would like to attach the file, but its' 60MB. Once again, I appreciate any help you may be able to give me!

Not sure, but try this: copy and paste-in-place ONLY the 3d Poly's, into a brand new clean layer. Then select all poly's and run Create Site Model again. Use all default settings except for 3d display use Mesh. Lest us know if it works.

If you are still having issues, and if possible, you might want to post your data (VW's file) here so that others can poke around in it...

As noted, make sure you are in top view, not top plan view, and make sure you know what layer your site model is on. Also, if you did a snapshot, it is put right over your model on the same layer, and can be moved/dragged out of the way.

Lastly, if you aren't getting any textures, click the teapot in the upper right corner (rendering modes) and make sure you are in something like open GL rather than sketch or wireframe to get the 3D textures you applied in the site model settings.

Hope this helps.

Peter and Kevin,

Thank you for your suggestions! Importing only the 3D polylines and creating a model from them has seemed to work. The Vectorworks Landscape Specialist also helped me with a few things. He got me on track! Now I just have to troubleshoot adding my aerial photograph as a texture to the model, which of course, isn't working right. Thanks for your help!
