Andrew Mac
I have been a long user of VW in dealing with all my residential projects. I have not had a lot of expereince with the viewports. My question is when I am woeking on the modeling aspect of the house and the bring into welevations- DO people genreally convert everything to lines or are they leaving everthing in the model form and creating things like interior elevations, exterior elevations, typ. wall sections, sections. Can this be achieved without converting to lines and if so how much deatail can be involved. I am just trying to stream line my projects so that if I decided to make a change in one area it would be updated throughtout the rest of the drawings. Is there some type of base drawing that have all the appropriate layers and sheets and classes Quote Link to comment
billtheia
I have only been using VW for 6 months but I've been using section and elevation viewports and NOT converting to lines. I draw over them in the annotations layer to add detail and lineweight as I need it. Thus far, It's been working pretty well. I still need to make SOME manual changes on the annotation layer when I revise the model but MOST of an elevation or section updates itself. It's certainly less work than drawing it all from scratch. I use the Model Setup and Add Standard Viewports to set up the sheets and classes. Then I cut my sections and elevations and drop them on their corresponding sheet. Quote Link to comment
michael john williams
Same here. We mainly do residential and do not convert to lines but add lines to vps in annotations. The process is a bit of a pain and takes a lot of discipline and learning but we have perserved - hope it will be worth it in the end. Pay back comes with 3D's and revisions. Quote Link to comment
taliho
Absolutely Use viewports. I add a lot of detail to the design layer,(exposed beams, soffits, railings etc) but its worth the effort. (That way I don't add lines in the viewports which change as the project develops) I find it a great timesaver overall. Tali Quote Link to comment
