jarjones
What is the best way to create a scrim or Rp effect in spotlight? Ideally I'd like to show the scrim lit from front (opaque) and from behind (transparent) RP screens seem easier: Make a rectangle, set its transparency and reflectivity to a certain amount and add backlight. Does anyone have settings that work for this effect? Thanks, Jeff A.R. Jones Quote Link to comment
Hunter B
I created a scrim using the grid pattern in the "new texture" dialogue box. It seemed to work rather well. RP on the other hand gets a little trickier. I'll try to dig up what I did a couple of years ago and post it. Quote Link to comment
grant_PD
I've had success as well using grid transparency. You can actually backlight it like scrim and front light it for opacity. For rp screens (or any other tv/led/lit source) I use a constant reflectivity, which doesn't allow light to affect it at all. Quote Link to comment
jarjones
What settings did you use for the grid transparency? I played around with the setting, but didn't find anything that seemed right. I was also trying to replicate a painted scrim, so there was an applied texture that I still wanted to look good. Quote Link to comment
jarjones
With the rp screen, I'm looking to have it afected by light. I work for a dance company and we regularly backlight an rp as our cyclorama and occasionally to cast shadows of dancers onto the upstage side of the rp. Any suggestions for settings for something like that? Thanks. Jeff A.R. Jones Quote Link to comment
grant_PD
I've got a file with scrim in it. can I email it to you? Quote Link to comment
jarjones
Please do. The address is jarjones@nc.rr.com. Thanks. Quote Link to comment
grant_PD
Jeff, the backlitable rp screen is an object who's reflectivity is set to be transluscent. Quote Link to comment
jarjones
I tried that, but couldn't tell which way the settings affected the outcome. I played with the settings somewhat at random, but never got a result I liked, ie, a painted scrim going transparent when backlit. I also tried using translucency settings for a piece that was going to have shadows cast on it from behind (without becoming transparent), but couldn't get what I was looking for there either. grant_PD
the scrim file I sent you should work just like a real world scrim. Keep in mind that because you're actually lighting through little holes you'll need to up your lighting intensity significantly, as well as keep light off of the front of the scrim. Real world stuff. buzz
Can anyone tell me the settings to set-up a new texture so I can have a light shining onto a gauze; and that section of the gauze is then transparent ? Many Thanks Quote Link to comment
islandmon
Edit the texture to make the holes transparent> Transparency> Mask Transparency> ReUse Image>Transparency>Select Hole color to be transparent Quote Link to comment
buzz
Thanks for you suggestions- unfortunately i still can't get it to work. Can you give me sany tips on the type of image I should be using. I was imagining just a normal black sharktooth gauze or similar. Quote Link to comment
islandmon
An Aviary enclosure required the creation of various rendered stainless steel mesh screens matching those proposed by the Park Director. Here's one showing the gray color as transparent: Quote Link to comment
