Iainy1961
What am I doing incorrectly now? Trying to number and address fixtures and failing. I get an error saying 'DMX out of range'. I have that set to start at 1, with a footprint of 10. I saved this as a template with universe, address and unit number and gave it a unique name. I made a unique label. Why is it not doing what I asked? Thanks again, Iain Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Scott C. Parker Posted March 12 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted March 12 Do you mean to use both the DMX footprint and put an additional 10 DMX channel buffer between the units? How many DMX channels does the unit have? Quote Link to comment
Iainy1961
@Scott C. ParkerThank you for replying. This unit has 10ch. I put the offset at 10. But none of the data is transferring to the fixture, no unit number or universe. I have spent hours on ,what is a large, but fairly straight forward plot. Now, I can't assign the fixtures without another three hours of faffing about. I do follow the instructions in the manual and I try to fix stuff myself. But this is ridiculous. Increment means increment to me. Quote Link to comment

Iainy1961
@Scott C. Parker Sure The last try I had with numbering. I labelled my template PAL Truss in the label manager Victory 2024 ver1.vwx Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Scott C. Parker Posted March 12 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted March 12 Spotlight Numbering.mp4 I saw your issue pop up when I had the universe set with a limit. Without a limit, it worked for me. Here's a video showing manual and circular numbering. 1 Quote Link to comment
Iainy1961
@Scott C. Parker Wow, thank you. Yes, very helpful. I guess there doesn't appear to be a personality for the 10ch mode these fixtures have. I suppose there is no way to edit a resource fixture to change the mode. Thank you again for taking the time to that. I am very grateful. 1 Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Scott C. Parker Posted March 13 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted March 13 Ah, you want to change the DMX footprint to 10 slots per unit? Simply change the number to 10. Quote Link to comment
Iainy1961
@Scott C. Parker Hi Scott, I followed your instructions to the letter. I am literally crying with frustration right now. I have spent three hours trying to find out what I must be doing wrong. But this is just not working for me, in fact I could have numbered all the fixtures by hand in the time it's taken me to get nowhere. First exactly like you did: Then this and then that and then for some inexplicable reason, it increments by 20! But most of the time I can;t get past the out of range error. I know I'm asking a lot of your time but I have to get past this, thank you Victory 2024 ver2.vwx Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Scott C. Parker Posted March 13 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted March 13 Change the Universe from the letter B to a number. For the math to work, you need to use a number. Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Scott C. Parker Posted March 13 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted March 13 PS, your label legend doesn't have any field checked to be used. You'll need that to see info on the plot. Quote Link to comment
Iainy1961
@Scott C. Parker I tried so many ways to do this. Using B was something that must have been left over from the label I tried to make. I used 1 for the other hundred times. I am just going to patch it myself and make labels for each light. I can’t believe it is so difficult. Then when I did get it to work, it added 20 not 10 and the label didn’t appear. thanks anyway for all your advice and help. Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee jcogdell Posted March 14 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted March 14 @Iainy1961 Have you tried the DMX patch interface? It works in a similar fashion to console patch interfaces, the key thing is to make sure all your fixtures have the channel ID's assigned so you can easily identify them. Patching this way will automatically make sure that the addresses fall inside the universe ranges, with any fixtures that end up out of the universe range automatically moving tot he next universe. It also displays how full the universes are visually and fixtures can be moved around graphically in the patch just like a console 1 Quote Link to comment
