Hello Marco, I encourage you to add the legacy version of the data cable tool to your workspace and use it for now. Data is being worked on, but it's not going to make it into SP6, nor into 2026. With all the other items that need data, we're working on improving the underlying coding so it works properly across the board vs. just fixing what's missing for lighting. If you want even more powerful data cable functions, check out our third-party partner's cable tools at autoplotvw.com. Sam's tools were the basis of our old set of tools, and he continues to improve them. They're fantastic, though they don't do 3D, power calculations, or Braceworks.

Ah, yes. There's a funny thing about hanging positions. In this case, you're actually hovering over the HP rather than the truss.

Please post a sample file so that the collective can take a look.

Have you tried the hanging position data tag from the VW resource manager? You could use it as a starting point to build your own custom data tags.

Cable and Distributor Objects in Equipment Summary
Scott C. Parker replied to hdmcclx's topic in Entertainment
Not yet. The power/cable tools were built for lighting first, as the lighting system is the most developed in VW. As we push improvements to other tools, the power/cable functionality is being worked on. Separating out power/cables for audio is on the list, as is power/cable for hoists, video, LED, etc. For now, you can filter some of your needs by layer. Even though it'll still list as lighting power, you can limit your audio if it's in an audio layer. -
@JustinVanHassel When I opened your file and then tilted the truss, the big circles came back. This is shown while the truss are selected and in wireframe ISO view.

Cable Tool Connection Origin in Symbols
Scott C. Parker replied to hdmcclx's question in Wishlist - Feature and Content Requests
Good idea. Please do me a favor. I'm going to be out for the next week. Ping me in a couple of weeks to remind me. -
THanks. Wow, the symbol is buggered. I'll file a bug.

Cable Tool Connection Origin in Symbols
Scott C. Parker replied to hdmcclx's question in Wishlist - Feature and Content Requests
Do you mean the red box added to show the rear of many movers? It's really just added geometry to show a direction and doesn't have functionality to grab onto. The power connectivity for lighting units is coded rather than being an added consumer component. I agree. It would require more processing power and affect performance. At the moment, we're just counting how many connector components are inside the symbol and matching connections. Adding location clicking would require each cable to find its corresponding start/end points, one at a time, to be drawn properly. What would be easier and keep performance up would be to add a default slack distance for a device. If we added a default slack distance field, you could add 1.5m, and all cables connecting to your distro would automatically add slack to all cables run to it. Thoughts on this? -
Cable Tool Connection Origin in Symbols

I agree. I started playing with this for large trailer generators with outputs at both ends of the trailer. This kind of suggestion for improvement is very helpful. -

Inclining trusses disconnecting to hoists

Welcome to the forum. Incline first, then attach hoists. -
This is as close as I could get. The ISO view doesn't have the lines, but the Top/Plan view shows the sections and it can count the panels. Drape Wall Test.vwx

Data visualisations in Equipment Summary Key
Scott C. Parker replied to Mike Wright's topic in Entertainment
Not really. Great idea. I'll add it to the wish list for future consideration. I played with a few things, though. The key on the right is rotated 180°. I had to re-sort the symbols in the build list. For this one, I used a negative number in the Text Distance field. The issue here is the auto line return, which messes with the text alignment. Lastly, this is two keys with a box drawn behind them for the border. The key for the text is set not to show symbols. The one with the symbols, I removed the text options and set the format body text format to 0.0. -
powerdistro/fixtures stuck on 0V
Scott C. Parker replied to ledstructures's question in Troubleshooting
It's the distro. It's missing a few internal connections and I'll file a bug. As for the 0V, none of them currenly show the voltage in the Object Info Palette. Since we calculate only the number of Watts a system uses, we don't yet need to show the voltage. It's not clear, I know. For testing, I swapped out the distro with another and ran the power calculations. Here's the file for you to play with. Power distro issue scp.vwx If you want to check the connections in the distro you're using, you can add a test command we have. Open your workspace editor and add the command "Check Distributor Symbols..." to any of your menus. When you run it, it will tell you what's missing and/or what's not connected. Here are two coffee breaks I did on cable tools and power planning. https://university.vectorworks.net/mod/overview/view.php?id=7559 https://university.vectorworks.net/mod/overview/view.php?id=7637 -
Be sure that the cursor changes to a larger cursor with a small plus sign when you hover over the truss. This cursor change is the indicator that the cable path is recognizing the truss as the item you're trying to snap to. If you were watching one of the three videos I made on cable tools, I was actually snapping from the cable bridge truss to the hanging position truss, not from a truss to a break-out. Are you snapping the truss? Or directly to the breakout? If you continue to have trouble, please post a sample file so that the collective can take a look.

@ConnorC This is a terrific drawing. Nice work. Questions: I don't see any bridles or hoists. I do see lights that look like they're hanging from the beams. Are you trying to hand lights directly to the wood? You have inserted House Rigging Points inside the beams. Are these the points to which you are trying to snap hoists or bridles to? When you snap hoists or bridles to the wood, do you have set locations? Or, can you place baskets anywhere along the beams? Do you have a file with some bridles/hoists snapped to the beams? Do you rig pipes or truss down from the beams? In other words, for this to work, Braceworks is looking for a truss-type system to be suspended below the beams using hoists or dead-hung cables.

This is some sort of bug between the data manager and the record when transferring the measurement from the record to the OIP. We're looking into it.

As this is more of a choice of style that would apply globally than just the summary key, I've added a couple of requests for the team to consider. Allow the capitalization menu command to be applied to the summary key and other text items trapped inside other objects. Add a capitalization option to the text style edit dialog, allowing you to style the summary key via the three text formatting buttons. Adding the dedicated check boxes is unlikely.

I suggest you copy/paste images here in the forum vs. links. Also, here's a thread of value here. Check out this thread. https://forum.vectorworks.net/index.php?/topic/123797-austrian-drape/#comment-535629
