No worries. Now that I have the file, I understand the issue. It's partly you and partly us. If you add the appropriate weight to the Video LED Panel Record attached to the symbols you are using, the weight will be correctly shown for the wall, regardless of how many panels wide and tall the wall is. We use the info from each panel and do the math. This works for all panels in the wall, including extra half panels on the perimeter of the built wall. For panels without weights assigned in the record, we offer you the ability to add a distributed weight that runs the width of the wall. Here's the thing: "Distributed" is treated the same way as the Distributed mode offered by the Rigging Load Tool. Thus, we use the number you add and calculate the weight along the run of the wall. This means it's up to you to calculate the weight per linear meter. If you double the height, you need to double the weight per meter. This field is not a per-panel weight.

Please post a sample file so that the collective can take a look. It’s best to copy the problem items into a new file to keep the file small and avoid any NDA issues at hand. Please use a definable file name. We get so many named “sample.” 🙂 Thanks, Scott

Lance, the recording was very helpful. Hoists have a max chain length set in the record attached to the symbol in the library. When users need to attach the top/bottom hooks beyond the limit, VW automatically adds bridles. This has been so since 2023. Several users would like to manually enter a new chain length, like before, to the hoist, and this is on our list. The current catch is that we get the overall weight of the hoist and its chain from the record, and changing the chain length would not report the changed weight properly. Again, it's on the list. Changing the length and weight of the hoists is fairly easy via the attach record workflow in the resource manager. Once users update and save their preferred hoist configurations in their favorite files, the type of issue you're showing in the video is solved. Best, Scott

Whenever I have repeated crashes, I rename my user folder to something else and restart VW. The folder will be created again with freshly baked settings. If VW then runs as expected, then it was something in the user folder that caused the issues. An easy way to find the user folder is to open the VW preferences dialog, choose the User Folders line and then click on the Reveal in Finder button.

I'm sorry, we do not have them in the library. If it were me, I'd find another similar symbol and edit the various records/settings, etc. to match what I need. Or, you could model them from scratch and add them to your favorites files.

No, they do not because the path is connecting to two different objects, and we wouldn't know which one to take data from. My video showed the info given to the path via my auto-numbering settings. Patch position needs to have all items have the same position name for it to work. In my video, I had changed the dimmer info to match the position so it would find the matching objects.

Copy/Paste select lighting device attibutes?

@Sam Jones is always willing to Zoom with his users to help with workflows and/or update his plugins to suit. -
Hi Jochem, The three CEE devices in the file are all missing their distro records. Without the record, the distributor tool does not see them as distros.
-
Not at this time. The cables read from the devices they touch when placed to receive the info upon insertion. Having a refresh type command is on our list of improvements for future offerings. Scripting is an option where all the cables sample what they're connected to and insert the new info. Sorry, I do not have such a script yet.

I guess this is why I'm asking. I've had good luck with the seating tool, though sometimes it needs a bunch of trial and error playing with for risers and curves.

Updated to 4.0.1 - Now Crashes on Launch 100% of time.
Scott C. Parker replied to bespoke's question in Troubleshooting
Resetting the settings folder in the user folder is fixing issues for many users. In the user folder, there's a settings folder. Moving the folder elsewhere to hide it from VW and restarting VW to test. I will often delete the entire folder when troubleshooting. -

Custom distributor not populating worksheets
Scott C. Parker replied to ldeikis's question in Troubleshooting
You've added all the parts, but need to make the internal connections for the worksheet data calls to see the connections. Here's a university course that shows how the internal parts of distributors are built. https://university.vectorworks.net/mod/overview/view.php?id=3074 -
Paid courses outside of service select??
Scott C. Parker replied to Jonk's topic in General Discussion
Creating content delivered via streaming also takes staff and equipment costs. Some training has little difference. Some likely have more or less to offer. Without links and examples, it's hard to say. It's also possible that much of the in-person training doesn't actually pay for itself. The number of Broadway shows that lose money during the first run relies on the subsequent tours to make back the initial investments. Both of these issues are part of other departments, so my opinions are conjecture. These are still open to all when live and then offered to subscribers after the fact. As for all of this, the University and training programs are part of another department. My answers are offered from what I know. Thanks, Scott -
If you start in Auto mode and allow the tool to rely on the object connectors, you shouldn't need to manually select cables, and can avoid the auto mode switch you mention. Paid courses outside of service select??
Scott C. Parker replied to Jonk's topic in General Discussion
Do you have links to these? I know we have several courses posted based on extended training sessions that are offered by our training department that carry a fee. These are in lue of attending paid training in person.
