Default Storey Levels

shorter

Question

Who else thinks that the default storey levels should update all storeys when changed?

If we set our default 'Structural Slab Level' to -100mm, for example, at the start of the project and then change our mind when the floor buildup becomes a bit more resolved, it would seem logical that the 'default' structural slab storey level should control all instances of that storey level in all storeys of the building, no?

It seems to me that when we set storey levels we need a button like in styles, to make this 'styled' or 'instance', i.e. default or user editable.

Absolutely.

That's what I expected when Story Levels were released.

Meanwhile, as they are .... I delete (nearly) all Default Levels.

I just "define" Level Names in the Levels list and apply them manually

for each Story.

Ditto.  We remove the default storey levels file completely from the standard install and set up our own.

It's useful to have a default set since they are then automatically applied to the storey when you set them up from scratch or when using our 'BIM Setup' command.

It depends on the specific Project, or better how standardized or not.

To be more precise, I delete those Default Levels for which :

- it is likely that changes will happen

- these need individual heights per Story

So for a complicated two story residential building + cellar and foundation,

I will likely prefer to do all manually without any disturbing Default Levels,

e.g assigning Levels to Stories.

BTW

I also deactivated any auto Layer creation from Levels, although manually

attaching a Layer to a Story is also cumbersome, as long as VW adds the

previous Layer height or other delta height to the Stories height .....

Of course,

already just for naming and spelling.

But I also would love to have working Default Levels.

As long as they are linked to Stories and update Default Layer Changes

AND

when there is a way to overwrite these locally in a Story.

(In a way that it does not lead to multiple same name Level entries in Stories)

Storey Styles, LOL I sort of Kid, but it does seem like the way they do things like this these days.

Still, a Storey Style might not be a bad single place to update in the project. We could have multiple in the same file, and we could transfer them from project to project or have a library of common project/construction types.

That said, I will always upvote better Storey/Layers/Levels to better represent common building practice.
