Jagged edges

Hi all,

I need a quick fix for a modeling issue. I read other topics claiming that changing the 3D view to high resolution will fix extruded circles with jagged edges but it does not seem to be working for me. I also tried subtracting holes from my cylinder to get smooth edges and that did not work either. Please let me know if anyone has other tips for getting circles to have smooth edges when extruded.

Three places to check:

 

1. VW Preferences:Edit Pane:2D Conversion Resolution

2. VW Preferences:3D Pane:3D Conversion Resolution

3. View Menu:Rendering:Shaded Options:Quality Pane:Details

 

And one more if you are using a Viewport 

4. Viewport OIP:Background Render Settings:Quality Pane:Details

 

And if you are getting just jaggies in a viewport make sure the Layer DPI is set to something higher (150-200 is usually good) than the default 72 DPI.

@Micaela Edwards Assume that the image you posted is Rendered ?

At first glance the curves rendered as segments / facets appears to be a setting in the Options for the selected Render mode.

 

Extrude a Circle and it typically looks good rendered

     Put a hole in the same circle then extrude - Facets may appear in the rendered view

@Micaela Edwards There are also areas on your posted image that may be caused by duplicate items.

What this looks like may depend on the shape and the Rendering mode

It looks to me like both problems. The faceting of the outer wheel is likely due to one of the Resolution settings. The Jaggies along the inside of the outer wheel could be "Z-fighting" of coincident objects. But normally that would show more on the face than along an edge.
