Ryan Russell
All, I'm trying to figure out the best way to create a "brick pedestal" like the image below where the column flares out at the base. And I'm also trying to determine what is the best method for having a component show multiple textures. Again, say for example, that the entry way was partially stucco and partial brick. Thanks in advance for your time and assistance. - Ryan Russell Quote Link to comment
VIRTUALENVIRONS
HI Ryan Is this the general shape you are interested in? If so, there are quite a few methods. I have a very simple method if this is the shape, but there are many ways. You could simply make the profile and sweep setting your segments to 90 degrees. line-weight
@Ryan Russell you need to provide more information about what you're trying to do if you want useful help. You're asking for advice on how to build something in 3d but only giving us one sketchy 2d elevation. You talk about a "column" but we don't know if it's a true column or a pilaster or what. So we don't know what it needs to join with. All these things are significant in deciding the best way to build the model. @VIRTUALENVIRONS shows how to make a solid form in that shape but making the shape itself is trivial, it's working out how it integrates with things like wall objects that is tricky because you need to be thinking about how it is going to appear in plans and sections. And what exactly do you mean by a "component" having multiple textures? Investing some more effort in explaining your question would encourage others to invest more in answering it. 1 Quote Link to comment

Hi Ryan, I don't know whether you are new to VW's 3D modelling or experienced, but I must assume new. Below is the tutorial I promised on three quick methods to make the column shape. 2 Quote Link to comment
