Help with vwx to dwg

Recommended Posts

@A Parker - I sent you message yesterday offering to help, but I remembered this morning that Commercial versions of VW can not open Education version files.

If your file is an Education version, you’ll either need to get another Education version user to help you — or see if someone at Vw can help you convert your file.

The original poster @A Parker sent me the file (it was not an educational version), but since it was just a Point Cloud Object I was unable to export the Point cloud to any other 3d format. All it would export was the bounding box of the point cloud.

Does anyone know if Vw can export a point cloud to any other 3d format?

Or if there is a way to extract the original point cloud data back out of the Point Cloud Object?

Did you solve this during my banishment?

If not...

You could use "extract 3D Loci" from the point cloud and then export that to .dwg.

Reimporting back to VWX shows the loci stay intact round trip.

No - I didn't. I didn't know that you could extract 3d Loci from a point cloud.

....and now you know,

and knowing is half the battle.

Well, it's actually more like 99% of the battle, but who am I to argue with 1980's cartoon wisdom?
