Klaus Koch
I assigned a Record Format to a symbol and used the symbol multiple times. Is there a way to change the record format values in such a way that the change is automatically changed in all the same symbols? I can change the values in two ways, but it never changes all symbols! Quote Link to comment
Tom W.
Have a look at this thread: Are you talking about changing the default field values for the symbol definitions or changing the values for multiple instances of those symbols? Either way, that thread covers it. Quote Link to comment

Tom W.
Can you just set up a worksheet that searches for those symbols in the drawing then edit the values in the worksheet? Quote Link to comment
Klaus Koch
Editing the values in the worksheet wiil affect the Symbols in the drawing. Thats good so far! The original Symbol in the resource manager will be not affectetet. Quote Link to comment

If you want to edit the default values attached to a symbol definition you need to use @Pat Stanford's script in the thread I posted. But doing this won't affect existing instances of that symbol, only future ones. Quote Link to comment

Pat Stanford
The basic idea is that once a symbol is placed it gets a copy of the record that was attached to the symbol definition and there is no ongoing link between the Record Format defaults and the version of the record data attached to the symbol. Some kind of "global value" field has been requested many times but has not been implemented yet. The two easiest ways to change record.field across multiple objects at once are the Custom Modification in the Tools menu or using a worksheet database. If you are using a worksheet database you can change one value and then copy the value of that one cell. Then select a range of cells that you want to have that value and paste and the value will be pasted into all of the cells at the same time. Custom Modification gives an interface close the the Object Info Palette, but you have to be "easily" able to specify exactly which object to change in the criteria you set. Worksheet Database gives a worksheet interface, but allows you to selectively choose which objects you change without having to completely identify them with the criteria. I can expound on criteria more if needed. 1 Quote Link to comment
