Can the same symbol be assigned to different classes?

I have sets of symbols I want to apply to different plans. I've put them into classes, named 'Electrics' and 'Proposed Electrics', however the 'proposed electrics' class does not show any objects unless I paste something. What could be causing this?

I don't think your question is clear enough.  What do you mean by "proposed electrics" does not show any objects unless I paste something?  If there are no objects in the class of course it does not show anything.  If the class is invisible then of course it does not show anything. If you have Class Options set to Active Only and another class is active of course Proposed Electrics objects don't show.

A common problem I see happens during the creation of the Symbol

 

¿ What class is it assigned to ? (See attached)

Often this is missed in the process and may end up as a Class that is NOT active.

 

Start by turning on ALL the classes and see what appears ...

 

The Visibility Tool is a quick non destructive way to do this.
