I cannot delete a space tag, I get this error 

 

 

I can not seem to get to the space style settings dialog. Does anyone have a good resource for creating custom space tags I am perplexed by the workflow and behavior.

Space Labels are actually part of the Space object. Select the Space and click and hold on the Style name at the top of the OIP. One of the options that pops up is Edit Style.

 

But be careful. If you edit the style to get rid of the label it will go away for ALL of the spaces that use that style.

 

You may want to consider turning off all of the Space Labels and use Data Tags to report on Spaces instead. Then you can add or delete Data Tags at will as they are only linked to the Space, not part of the Space.

I think in VW2023 Data Tags replaced Space Labels completely + it's a Data Tag that @Siradrad is talking about. They are getting that message because the tag is attached to the Space By Style so it is 'permanently' attached + can't be deleted. If the tag is set to be By Instance then it can be deleted. See the 'By Style' column in the 'Space Label' pane, 'Space Style' dialog. It wants to be set by instance:

 

@Siradrad you should update your signature because from your screenshot it looks like you're using VW2023.
