unearthed
I have a need for an .xyz points file for manipulation in another software. While VW allows export of early dxf formats, there's no option for export of 3D points aka vertices. Currently I'm using https://www.guthcad.com/dxf2xyz.htm but it adds quite a few steps (and ime requires a very early-format .dxf), and it'd save time to avoid it. .xyz points file format looks like this: 81525.081217,21129.437724,490.905487 - for X Y & Z coordinates Quote Link to comment
Pat Stanford
Make a worksheet of the points and export a CSV file from there. Quote Link to comment
unearthed
Thanks Pat, I just realised I forgot to say the points are currently the vertices of a group of 3D polygons which are contour lines. Quote Link to comment
Pat Stanford
AEC:Survey Input:3D Polys to 3D Loci command. Make sure you put them in a new class so it is easy to isolate them and to use as a criteria for making the worksheet. Quote Link to comment
unearthed
Thanks Pat!, If I ever knew of that command I'd forgotten it. It makes that very painless. Quote Link to comment
Benson Shaw
Do what Pat sez. It gives points only on the contours, as you requested. Probably lots of them. If the selected spacing misses some sharper contourq curves, add a few extra loci by hand. A similar approach is to create, in a new class or layer, an array, over entire site, of 3d Loci on layer plane, via the Edit>duplicate array command. Choose xy spacing values to optimize the count. Send to surface. Call the xyz values into a worksheet and export csv. None may land exactly on the contours, but will be evenly distributed over the site. If that’s any advantage. -B Edited February 2, 2023 by Benson Shaw Gridding vs arraying 1 Quote Link to comment
unearthed
Thanks Benson Shaw, I was wondering how I could use Edit>duplicate array, and a nice simple route to thin points. In this case my client supplied data is amazing but my outputs don't need that level of definition. 1 Quote Link to comment
