  1. Hi there, I work in Landscape Architecture and we model our own designs. I am working in both Rhino and VW. Models are complex and then rendered in VW. There seems to be no way or very random importing of groups/blocks from Rhino. Sometimes VW groups objects on similar geometry or in nested groups. Curves are imported as groups. VW completely ignores Rhino blocks. There is no documentation on this. My workaround is Rhino - use a script to export layers as separate .3dm files VW - import multiple .3dm files. Then they all maintain location. Is there any way at all to maintain Rhino hierarchies? Tried .obj / /dxf. Yes we model natively in VW as well Some Rhino import options would be appreciated. Best wishes Andrew
  2. It would be great if anyones, and by anyone I mean my, Vectoworks Class Structures would Export to a Rhino 3DM file as the Equivalent of a Rhino Files Layers. This would help quite a bit for work flow and would value add and reduce labor for the file Export/Import exchange. Any idea if this is possible or being considered? Been Chewing on this issue a while in my work flow. Regards.
  3. Hi, Big fan of Rhino, I've been using vectorworks now For 3 years to get into BIM. I'm still using Rhino to keep the free form and flexibility that have this kind of sofware in the early stage. Idealy, I would be able to use both like very fluidly. I look at Rhino.inside into revit or Archicad and tested it and feel is really powerfull. Do you plan to develop a rhino.inside with vectorworks. I could use the grasshopper power software and rhino and then put it into BIM vectorworks. That would be my priority request if I have to ask something into vectorworks as it so powerfull and really flexible to use this kind of relationship between those 2 software. Being honest, I'm not quite a big fan of vectorworks...miss a lot rhino and grasshopper flexibility which I don't get with vectorworks and marionette. It's not about time to rich a level....but more about sotftware usability, design, and flexibility.... Hope that feature will come soon. with regards.
  4. Hi all, Is it possible to use either: 1. Python Scripts (.py files) that were created for Rhino? 2. Use Macros somehow from Rhino (assuming this is a hard "no") Thanks
  5. There is a Rhino (.3dm files) import & export option in Vectorworks, it's more the import option I have a problem with. It only imports Rhino V5 files. Rhino V6 has been available for around 2 years now. It wasn't working in VW 2019, and now the new VW 2020 still doesn't import Rhino V6 files. Surely needs addressing ??? Link below to forum discussion from last year. Please can we get this sorted, cheers https://forum.vectorworks.net/index.php?/topic/60072-import-rhino-v6-3dm-file-fails/&tab=comments#comment-299885
  6. Hi All, I am trying to export some 3D massing models (pitched roofed house models for context to a site model) to rhino but I cannot get any consistent results. I have tried most of the 3D export options, but VW either flattens the 3D down to the 2D plane, or tears the 3D model into individual planes and then centres them on the origin. The only conversion that gives me approximate 3D house style shapes is the 3DS export option, but all the geometry goes a bit wonky. Does anyone know a workflow I can use to export 'massing models' into usable 3D geometry I can import into another program. Thank you. Nicholas McLeod
  7. Hello everybody, I would like to ask if it is possible to import from rhino to vectorworks, surfaces or polysurfaces and convert them to walls, floors, roofs? thnx
  8. Hello, I work with VW 2017, but I'm still not really used to build complex 3d volumes. At the moment I have to model an elliptical stair, and I'm only able to build it in Rhino. I've exported a DWG file from Rhino and imported it in VW. The imported faces are not really clean (dividied in triangles) and I am also not able to make sections through it and having a nice and clean section/elevation. I guess that this has also to do that rhino works with planes and Vectorworks with solids (?). Is there a way I could model/export this stair in rhino, import it in VW, and be able to make sections through it and also have the elevations? Thanks a lot. Have a nice week.
  9. Hello, I am looking to export a Vectorworks 3D model to rhino. When I export using the rhino function all the layers are lost. I can individually export each individual layer and rename this and then import into rhino but this is very labour intensive. Is there an option similar to DWG export that allows layer preservation and solids to be exported.
  10. Hi All, We are currently in the process of constructing a complex 3D vectorworks model with the end goal of exporting from Vectorworks to rhino, in order to render in V-ray. Any ideas as how to best construct and export so that the file is as clean as possible, with all appropriate layers, when imported into rhino? KM VW 2016 SP3
