  1. Hey all, My collegues and I have been using VW project sharing for a couple of projects now. We are using VW 2024 (update 5) landmark edition. We have noticed some seemingly random check-outs being required to update some viewports, graphic legends, or worksheets. I've posted an image below that shows me trying to recalculate a graphic legend (highlighted in the lower left hand corner) and a prompt from VW to check out callouts on totally different design layers and sheet layers that have nothing to do with the graphic legend I'm trying to update. This has happened with other instances but this is the latest one that has prompted me to ask about it. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
  2. Is there a way to place different types of annotations on their own class/layer/visibility within the sheet viewport? ie. wall tags on a layer, window tags on a layer, door tags on a layer, dimensions on a layer, notes on a layer, room labels on a layer...etc I'm about to go back to annotating everything on the design layer within different classes in order to keep better track of each type. It just gets too crowded to catch mistakes/omissions/changes once you have a full set of working drawings going. I've got a client that keeps changing their mind and I know I must be missing some changes in the annotations. I can't believe I have to ask this. We were arguing about using the viewport annotations versus annotating right on the design layer when I worked in an office back in 2005! Please tell me I've just missed a setting! Thanks!
  3. It would be SO very useful and supportive if it were possible to organise Design Layers, Saved Views, Sheet Layers & Viewports to into sub-folders, showing up kind of 'grouped' in the Navigation Palette. --> Same as you can do with Classes, by simply adding a dash ' - ' in between the words. I have many highly complex VW files, and they are filled with a huge number of Design Layers, Saved Views, Sheet Layers & Viewports. Any input is much appreciated.
  4. Issue: When adding Layers to a document by way of importing them from another saved document, it is not possible to import layers that have the same name as a layer in the destination document. To import these layers requires possibly unwanted changes to the receiving document or to the source document (which is a also little convoluted considering...) See attached screenshot excerpt from this Vectorworks Help page. Proposed Solution: Have a name-edit dialogue appear under applicable circumstances that offers to prepend or append the names of duplicate layers being imported. - I expect this would be better than asking to rename every applicable instance, because if a user is importing many design layers that have duplicate names it would be a cumbersome process to address them all individually.
  5. Our workflow for irrigation in VW has ALWAYS been to separate each station into a unique design layer. This allows for greater control, visibility, and conflict detection. Since the creation of the irrigation tools, this workflow has been compromised. Irrigation components, mainly valves, will magically change design layers when connected to different features. Nothing in VW should ever change design layers unless by User Error or by choice. Additionally, when moving valves and other components between design layers, the will actually lose their connection status. I understand that irrigation networks are a unique feature in VW and the fact that they can connect through different design layers in the first place is a revelation, but that shouldn't compromise our ability to control it. The following is a simple screenshare showing the issue. FIX THIS!
  6. Dear VW lovers, I have a VW file I have worked on for a few months, with contains many meanwhile unnecessary Design Layers, and now I wanted to reduce it to what I only need within this file. So firstly I deleted all unnecessary sheet layers and viewports and then purged the file down to the bone. But now the aim is to only keep the design layers which are connected to these Viewports. --> All other Design Layers can be deleted. But because there are so many of them, it is mighty time consuming to go over every single viewport and check which DLs are connected and which not, to then delete those. Is there an automation similar to purging that does the trick? Any help is appreciated. Cheers, Grethe
  7. I am having trouble with a project sharing file. It automatically checkout layers and more importantly it shows me as person who checkout the layer. I can not release or checkout again. Please see an image showing the message I get, in this case I am the owner (hassan Raza) it won't let me do anything. Thanks
