  1. Give us a rundown of the SolidEdge experience Oyvind. PM if you don't want to post . . . .
  2. Exactly my point! FIX it to the "Old Working Plane" by Default, you know the one i mean, That USEFUL format VW used to use! "THEN", and only then, if "WE" want to change the plane we're using, WE decide!! NOT VW. P.S. not shouting, just emphasising
  3. As i said before the bouncing around from plane/screen/layer to plane/screen/layer just get's in the way. Whilst i'm certain the VW designers and programers have our best interests at heart when they dream up a new concept, the practical progression often misses the mark. There ARE many improvements, but the obligatory choices made by the App should have more Pref choices so once selected that's how they remain, so YOU decide when you view or use one plane or another, not VW. Right now, some options disappear in the OIP if you select a different one. It may already work, but not very well. VW needs progressive steps towards it's new abilities, not enormous leaps without the necessary stages needed to get there. Fully Operational Fillet/Chamfer, EAP, Multiple Extrude and 3D Dims would have been better considering for how many years they have been requested.
  4. i still find it all a little confusing. The most annoying thing about it all is that VW automatically decides for you which setup to use and it'll only give you the 3D option when it wants to. For me, it should work EXACTLY as it did in previous versions, allowing the user to then decide how, when and where to change the view option to include the new abilities if necessary. Not oblige you to work as it says. It DOES offer good possibilities as Mike suggests, but some great aspects seem to have been lost.
  5. Thanks Michael, i'll give it a go. i've been in an internet "Dead Zone" for the past few days with only v2009 to hand . . . . . . Cheers Kaare. i'll try that too(but i think i may already have done so along with the many other attempts). Much obliged everyone, Andrew
  6. ALL get my vote! The annoying Screen to WP change being my pet hate(for this tool) since it inception. Rotation drives me mad too. Leave the Path where it's created! AS it's created!
  7. User Pref would be great. At least then there'd be a choice . . . . . . .
  8. So, did anyone get a positive result from this one???
  9. Mine too! For as far back as . . . . . .?? Oh, a long time any way . . .
  10. Thanx Michael for your extensive research into my hair pulling problem. So it must be time for a Bug report seeing as this was possible in past v's of VW. Previously it was enough to add a small circular extrusion to one of the two i wished to unite and the Multi Extrusion would Add as well, eventually. i also used the "Pour" technique to arrive at the desired result, but this is the 1st stage of the procedure. Thing is, your examples are reasonably complex shapes. Mine are simple 2D objects and using only two not three. i'll have to try with the Push/Pull Tool and Loft to see if i can get any results. Thanx for the input Horst.
  11. i'm struggling! Add/Subtract have always been a trifle difficult regarding custom built solids, but with a workaround or another i've managed. Now i need to modify a Symbol. To expand a space(the subtraction) constructed of two solids that are then Filleted prior Subtracting . i couldn't simply Edit it as it was 1st created back in VW11, so had become frozen as an uneditable block(despite passing through the Upgrade relay) so i tried to recreate from scratch again with v2011. Now, i can Add/Subtract some of the components, but a "Multiple Extrude" solid that has always been possible to Edit prior to v2011, just WILL Not Add! i've tried Nudging, Splitting, Converting but i'm lost for ideas. Can anyone offer a solution, Please?
  12. Yeah, that would be another ibuprofen for constant ailments Benson.
  13. No dispute whatsoever on that front . . . .
  14. Bryan, Ya Can't beat a BIG screen! i fully agree with the complementary status of a VW App for the iPad, Hell, i use use my iPod for everything and it's morsel by comparison. It really WILL take VW to the next level, if Desktop VW first catches up with the hardware. Multi Processors have been around for far to long now for any excuses. One thing at a time, in the correct order . . . . . .
  15. All good Bryan, but my keyboard still play a "BIG" part in working with VW. Select Tools? Keyboard Move objects? Keyboard Edit Symbols? Mostly Keyboard Change View? Keyboard The list goes on. Not that Mices don't play a big part, but Mouse/Keyboard combo is multi dimensional and still keeps things moving faster than just one or the other. Not that i don't see the benefit of the touch screen . . . . it's just that VW still has to catch up with current tech on our desktop machines(multi processors/threading to name but two) could be a while before we get to make use of the hardware goodies already available to us. Andi
  16. Dear Sad, Whilst the lack of ports on an iPad stops me from jumping in, it is in Apples nature to lead the way with a fresh view on "New Tech" and wait for the rest to catch up . . . . . And right now "Wireless Connection" seems to be the top of the list. All of this just so you don't need to carry an Printer, Drive, Optical, Scanner, MacBook Pro, iPod, Desktop, Plotter, Card Readers, Camera. . . . . . . . . . . .etc. etc. . . . . . And all the cables needed to connect Old and New office paperweights. Not quite there yet, but . . . .
  17. Anyway, i think i've grasped the gist of it. What i don't understand is, in the tool/menu bar dropdown, at all stages of the edit, "Working Plane" is present, but, at no time does it appear in the Palette. And i like the Palette! i can make it handy as and when i like. Slap it in the middle of the drawing if needs must. If i want the option now, i have to run up to the tool/menu bar. What happened to the WP in the Palette? Yes i know the Active Layer Plane is present, but it seems to give different results, or am i just getting slow . . . . . . ? Maybe i need a holiday?
  18. Seems to me Benson, that the changes to the WPPalette have been quite a leap from the old Palette, i just wish NAG or NV would be a little more forthcoming with explanations about what one has to do to achieve the same results obtainable prior to the change. Maybe it's there, i've just had no luck though. Apologies due, yes, i am talking 3D Symbols. Ooops! That makes more sense to the Missing "Shape Tab". Like everything, once you know how, it's the proverbial piece of cake, but sometimes discovering the "Hows" can be a little more taxing than a stroll in the park. As a result the "New Capabilities" mean that using things like the 3D Move Tool, in the same drawing, give totally different results to those in v2009. Steeper learning curves than i wish to see in an Upgrade. But the Scroll Wheel working in the WPP would have been as useful. It's like the latest "Software Update" from Apple, they've cut the "Download Only" option from the menus. Now to just download and not install immediately, one needs to go online do a search then choose what you want, then download. Before it was all automatic. 5 steps instead of one! As for the "Look At" function, in principal it works, but the results seem more extreme than before and difficult to return to the Norm after use. No doubt it can be done, but the previous steps no longer provide the same desired results. Andi
  19. Thanks Benson, i take it the Active Layer Plane is what used to be listed as the Working Plane(or whatever the default title in the WP Palette was) and yes i went though all the usual procedures to check i wasn't doing anything adverse to cause the crooked symbol. i tried the Look At button too to no avail. Reset to Top/Plan too. No luck! In the end, i undid the few actions prior to the odity, and quit VW. That seemed to solve things, but i really would like to know what i did to cause it in the first place, as i've never come across it before. BTW i've since found a Plane Dropdown nested about 6 layers deep in a symbol . . . . the 2D origin of an object. Thanks Mike, no i have not Grouped Symbols since . . . . i can't even remember how long. Despite some of the Symbols being well matured, some years ago it was suggested it caused trouble in some aspects, so i rebuilt those that needed it without grouping . . . No Hybrids either. The only grouping i'm aware of that happens on auto with Fillets and Chamfers as far as i know. Add Solids maybe . . . So, i'm still flumuxed!
  20. OK, so i understand the concept behind the 2010/2011 approach to "Planes" but there seems to have been some practical changes which are proving elusive to master. 1st i don't have a Plane Dropdown in the OIP in any of the Tabs for any of the objects in the drawing. ?? Also the Working Plane Palette which i used constantly, no longer seems to respond to the same actions that it did previously. e.g. After selecting a named WP in order to work facing an inclined object, previously selecting the Default WP from the list returned everything back to the original state of the drawing. i was assuming that the new guise of the old WP was the "Active Layer Plane", but selecting this leaves all objects in the Symbol selected at time of choosing the inclined plane, stuck. That is, each separate 3D object is inclined to that of the inclined WP, even in Edit Mode. So how do i now return everything to the way it was . . . . .? Does this make sense? i know i'm confused. it may be staring me in the face, but i can't see it. Oh Yeah, and the scroll wheel doesn't work in the WP Palette!
