  1. Here's the one that I use: PROCEDURE SelectedToByClass; FUNCTION ChangeToByClass(h :HANDLE) :BOOLEAN; BEGIN SetFillColorByClass(h); SetPenColorByClass(h); SetFPatByClass(h); SetLWByClass(h); SetLSByClass(h); END; BEGIN ForEachObjectInLayer(ChangeToByClass, 2, 0, 4); END; RUN(SelectedToByClass);
  2. Mike, at 1"=1'-0" (1:12) they're pretty blobby. I've attached a pic with line-weights turned on. It shows gyp. bd. on one side of the wall and stucco on the other. It would ABSOLUTELY be better if we had controls for line-weight of the stipple. In the mean time, I'd be happy if the darn things just followed the line's attributes. You're right, I could use a hatch instead but creation and control of hatching isn't exactly intuitive.
  3. Um, yeah - Why the #@!! can't I control the line-weight of the stipple in the gyp. bd. material? It's so $*@%!#& heavy that it's useless to me. Also, why can't I get the density down below a certain amount? It looks like settings of 1 and 10 are the same. I might be able to salvage use of the tool if I could get the density down to a more tolerable level. As a new VW user, I'm getting pretty tired of finding the "productivity-enhancing" tools roughly half finished.
  4. Jim, I am not able to use Force Select because the cursor is not recognizing the objects in the viewport.
  5. Thanks, Peter. You're right, in a pinch, gyp bd could be used. It would just be better to have a SLIGHTLY irregular face for stucco.
  6. I am also frustrated by this issue. Results with 1/2" or 3/4" stucco are even worse. The weird thing is, the example in the VW manual shows the results that I'm after but the tool produces something that looks NOTHING like that. See attached images. Steve, I see that you're using VW12. I'm using 2008 & it's not any better. Can someone from NNA please comment on this issue and let us know if there is a fix on it's way?
  7. I know that this is an old post but I'm new to VW and have been trying to figure out how to draw plywood. Well, the linear material tool appears to do this. In fact, it has detail and non-detail versions as well as settings for gyp. bd. and stucco. It looks like this tool will fit the bill for me. Is there something I'm missing?
  8. Peter, thanks but I checked that setting and it's already set to Show/Snap/Modify others.
  9. Never mind. I should know better than to post a question before searching the forum first. I found the answer - turn on ceiling-main class in viewport. Love the forum.
  10. Can someone tell me how to get the header above doors and windows to appear in a reflected ceiling plan? A viewport created with Create Standard Viewports has them but I can't figure out how they got there. Thanks.
  11. OK - the plan viewports in question are in the None class and I can render them any way I'd like. I just can't select them by simply clicking and double-clicking doesn't do anything. I CAN select them by dragging a box around them. help.
  12. I don't think that it's a class issue - I turned on all classes and the problem persisted. Ian, I haven't tried rendering in anything but wireframe because the viewports in question are plans. I'll give it a try and let you know what I find out. Also, the link that you posted is to THIS post - did you have another post with this issue?
  13. I am having trouble selecting one sheet layer viewport in a set of drawings. I started with a template set of drawings that had all of the layers, classes, views, sheets and viewports already set up. I pasted in drawing information from a file that I had started before I created the template set. Most of the viewports seem to work just fine. One plan viewport (power & communications,) however, can only be selected by area. I can not click on the plan to select or double-click to edit. I can select the drawing title that I had placed in annotation space but not the plan itself. This is a problem because I want to move the plan to a specific location on the sheet but can't because I can't grab a part of the plan to use as a handle. Has anyone else run into this problem? Am I missing something obvious? I could really use some help on this one. Thanks.
  14. Yeah, I have a MacBook and it doesn't have a fn-keypad either. I use an external keyboard when CADing. I use a Microsoft split keyboard in the office and an apple external keyboard when I need something more portable.
  15. Peter is correct. The only way to get vertical verticals is to set viewer and look heights to the same value - just like with a physical camera.
  16. Thanks guys. That is just the information that I needed. Christian, I think that YOU should be writing the help file - NNA's attempt only confused me. This actually solves one of my other problems. I was looking for a simple way to reset the attributes palette to "by class." If I simply enable Use at Creation for all of my classes (except none, maybe) I don't really have to worry about it. Great! Again, this forum RULES.
  17. boxjoint, I think that in 12 you can also open the target drawing, browse to the source drawing in the Resource Browser, right-click on the updated symbol and choose Import. VW2008 adds an export function to this type of workflow which allows you to "push" resources to other files (even if they're not open.)
  18. Still a newbie to VW. Setting up new template file. Can someone tell me what Use at Creation does in the Classes dialog? Help says that checking this allows class attributes to be applied when object is created. I just did a quick test and it looks like class attributes are applied either way. Thanks in advance for your help.
  19. Actually, I think that Marc was looking for a way to reduce the size of the PDF file generated by VW and/or create a file that didn't require as much processing when printing. I just did a quick test with a small (11 page) architectural project. It was set up with B&W VPs, included no images and very few patterns. It consisted of a series of floor plans and hidden line perspectives. I used batch PDF export and saved files with 150, 300, and 600 dpi resolution. File sizes were 1.4MB, 1.6MB, and 1.9MB. This is only a 14-19% increase in file size despite a theoretical doubling of resolution. I then exported as a 300dpi PDF with Export Classes as PDF Layers turned on. This resulted in a 1.9MB file. Again, a 19% increase. Lastly, I printed a single page to PDF (using OS X built-in PDF generator) and wound up with a 288K file. I used VW's PDF export to create the same page and got a 244K file so the VW PDF was actually smaller by 18%. So, Marc, with regard to the linework, VW doesn't offer much to allow a reduction in file size. You can make sure that Export Design Layers as PDF Layers and Export Classes as PDF Layers are both turned off. If you have images (background image files, image props, etc.,) you can use the Downsample higher resolution raster images to... to reduce the dpi of those images. By opening the file in Photoshop, you are effectively pre-processing the image. Photoshop doesn't handle vectors, it creates a raster-based file which is why it printed more quickly. I suspect that it took you more than the 10 minutes you waited for the PDF print to create the Photoshop print so it might be more time-efficient to stick with the VW PDF. I generally email a file to my local printer for later pickup so that I don't have to spend time waiting. Another option would be to buy Adobe Acrobat and use it's Distiller. I haven't used this in a while but when I did, it allowed quite a bit of fine tuning of PDF output. I think that we'd all love to hear what you find works best. PDFs can be a big pain in the behind. Good luck.
  20. You don't need a third-party application to monitor memory - you can use the activity monitor. It even lets you configure the dock icon to show memory, cpu, or network usage.
  21. If you update the symbol in your original symbol file, open the file in which you'd like to update, browse to the original symbol file in the Resource Browser, and Double-click on the symbol, you should get a dialog box asking if you want to update the symbol definition. You might have to actually place the symbol - I don't remember.
  22. I understand that the printer uses dpi but the PDF file, itself, contains vector information. Generally speaking, lines are lines, fills are fills, and text is text - all independent of dpi. Zoom in on a PDF created with VW. All line-work, fills, and text is razor sharp no matter how close you get because it's a vector file. In fact, you can open that PDF in Adobe Illustrator and edit the drawing. The reader and printer driver change the vector information to raster information when printing but before that, isn't dpi irrelevant? Of course if you include any attached images, they WILL be dpi-dependent but it doesn't sound like Marc is talking about that.
  23. Shouldn't this be a simple vector file? If so, shouldn't dpi be irrelevant?
