  1. Good day All Which is beter for VectorWorks? PCI or AGP? I have been reading an article on AGP and PCI. http://www.howstuffworks.com/agp.htm It tells me that AGP is beter for 3D graphics rendering. If this is so why are we still running PCI bus ports with VectorWorks? But on here I also read that VW only use Video Cards for OpenGL.... http://techboard.nemetschek.net/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=125484&Searchpage=1&Main=26124&Words=graphics+card&Search=true#Post125484 That brings me to my next question. What is the difference between a Graphics and a Video Card? Or is it just another name for the same thing? Thirdly. Which card would be recommended on AGP for VW? Thank you in advance for any advice or comments.
  2. Good day Pete If you want to attach a 2D drawing from say AutoCad, you can Import the .dwg file. This will create its own layer in VW. Go to a different layer, the one where your 3D drawing is and layerlink the new layer and select "Project 2D objects" View>Create Layer Link. In your 3D layer the 2D drawing will stay on the base plane. Hope this helps you
  3. Thank Thom. This is a really quick and easy way to get good results, still need to read the tutorial but managed to do a quick render from a complex VW drawing....need to play with lighting and textures still too.
  4. In that case he could bring the symbols in like you said, but group the lights and rotate, separate to the truss. You can then make the rotated group a symbol and have edit properties in future.
  5. Personly I would edit the symbol and rotate onlt the light fixture to leave the clamp un-rotated.
  6. Mat, Please go see my post in SGG Works with the AFI Renders PDF. http://techboard.nemetschek.net/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=118544&gonew=1#UNREAD The stage was with Black Chrome. Maybe you need to add some lights, just some small ones, to bring out the highlight points. Your light source would need to be on the same side as the camera. Rendering something like this on such a small scale would be difficult in any render, try and change your white background to black. edit add: I had some troble trying to load the real texture on here, but added a screen shot of the attributes. See haw that works
  7. Good day Mat I have made two different textures for this. 1st is a Plain Color black, Simple, Metal Reflectivity with specular and Ambient set to 100. This I use for my metal stacking chairs. My 2nd is an edit from texture called "Metal Chrome Plate", all I did is change the color to Black. I used this texture for a glossy black stage ramp in a fashion show, worked wonderful. Keep Well
  8. Good day Brett An image prop does have this ability you seek in the OIP. So if all the image props in the group are set to this then it should work. Not to sure if it stays the same in other versions than VW12. If you are asking with regards to any type of objects in a group and that that group is capable of auto rotate, I think not. Add your Version of VW and OS in your Signature please.
  9. Good day XOP15 See the thread below http://techboard.vectorworks.net/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=98404#Post98404
  10. Good day Andrew Thank you so much for your help with the Light Symbols. Here is a link to a post of a render with them in. The Atomic3000 and Crowd Blinder http://techboard.vectorworks.net/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=98404#Post98404
  11. Yes please Show us what that mashine of a card can do.
  12. Good day Boriqua No, You would create a 3D polygon and apply the image. I created a water texture in this way and it worked well instead of having the look of a solid extrude, it had the translucency it needed.
  13. In a recent project I need to indicate different types of lights, but as they were not going to be seen in detail for rendering I used a standard moving head body, which was a Mac250. In the lighting layout was SGM Wash400, SGM Spot400, SGM Spot400 CMY, Martin Mac700, Fresnels and Floodlights. I ended up with 5 different Symbols as one was standing on the stage and the rest were hung from truss. To indicate which were which I changes the attributes of the line color for each symbol, I also placed a light of a different color in each Symbol. All this allowed me to control that type of light by changing one symbol. I hope this makes it a bit clear as to what you could do.
  14. Good day All How does the rendering quality and time duration compare to Renderworks?
  15. You need to edit the Symbol. Which version of VW are you using? Please add the details to your signature to be posted along with each post you make.
  16. I shall have to ask my boss as I have downloaded way more than I'm allowed in the past week, so if he says he wants it, I shall. Glad I could help you there Matt
  17. Good day Matt Here is a link to some DXF 3D Symbols I have not downloaded it myself, hope it works for what you need. http://www.martin.com/product/resource.asp Under Technical Data->Illustrations Keep Well
  18. Ooooo.... prudy! Will have a look see if I find something
  19. Matt For those of us whom do not know what a tw1 is, please explain. Maybe someone has it without knowing....
  20. I have the Martin LC 2140 Detailed drawing, but to big to post here. If anybody wants it let me know I'll email it to you.
  21. malibu Did you come right with the LC panels?
  22. Thank you all for clearing this up to help us understand what the function was for the Y key.
  23. I just tried that...."hit the Y key" What is suppose to happen? Does something have to be selected(active) or do you have to go set this up somewhere to have screen hints. Y is the correct key as illustrated by David.....
