  1. Katie, Tried it....does not help. That is one of the first things I tried. Pete
  2. I just posted this same issue in another thread.... And a giant resounding YES...I am seeing a huge slow down. This is from another thread I just posted... "I've tried to test everything I can to free up operating memory for VW 2008 to no avail. Here is what is happening. Version 12.5 worked fine...no issues at all. Version 13...is stealing all of my system memory resources as I draw (mainly just in lines and few symbols). It just gets sooooooo slooooooow that I have to shut down VW and start it up in order for it free up memory. I am running XP with 3.6Ghz dual core nvidia 7400 (latest upgrades)with 256 on board and 2GB memory. It takes about an hour of layout time in simple lines to begin noticing the OIP taking additional time to gather info with each object selection. If I drop a symbol in it can take up to 10 seconds for the OIP to recognize it. I have shut down all unecessarry programs, increased system pagefile size, disabled indexing.....nothing I do to windows seems to help VW. As a matter of fact 2008 is slowing down any and all other programs I wish to run like when I opened this explorer window to write this...VW is minimized but it has grabbed all my memory so this note is taking a long time to write. There is a memeory problem with 2008... Any suggestions would help.... Is anyone else out there seeing the same thing? I may have to go back to 12.5 to keep food on the table." Pete A.

  4. Mike, There are two ways to work around the window stacking issue. First one is to set the object stacking order with Modify->Send->Send to Front or Send to Back command. Second (and the one I use) is to set up a seperate class for stacked openings (which in many cases include vents) so that you can turn off the class for plan view presentation. Pete
  5. OK...that'll work. It's easy to hit Ctrl-Shift-S and run a sketcth to bring up the styles then apply my user defined style. Thanks, Pete
  6. Architect...the one it defaulted to when I first loaded 13.
  7. Katie, Another thing I noticed in reference to the Sketch Style...the resource browser does not display the list of Sketch Styles by default until you go to View->Rendering->Sketch Options and open the edit dialog. This only appears upon your first entry into the Resource Browser...after that it shows up OK. Pete
  8. I have recieved this error upon opening and modifying the workspace. Added no plug-ins and brought none over from a previous version. Cannot find the plug-in reffered in either the workspace editor or the plug-in editor. It appears the hard coded system is looking for a plug-in that does not exist. Pete
  9. Document Default Sketch Style does not hold user setting... reverts back to Rough style upon each opening of file. Pete
  10. Check your classes to make sure all significant ones are turned on.
  11. Teeewaaangggg thump bumpa bump dooowha didy dot.
  12. Hey while you-all are at it...the old data display would revert to decimal digits when it reached beyond the preferenced set fractions. This does not seem to be the case with the new floater. I always defer to the 9th digit for accuracy beyond the fraction in the extreme case of angled applications as the irregular numbers apply. Pete
  13. The heads up floating display for the Tape Measure Tool is to light to see the data fields and the data display fields do not increase in size to show large dimensions. Is there anyway to ajust the size of the data fields? Pete
  14. Carpalmer, If you have the ability with your Logitech mouse to control the buttons to individual programs set the side scroll wheel buttons to "key assignment" of the left and right arrows respectively. This a work around until VW supports the function. Pete
  15. Tisk...tisk. Where art thou superior intelligent life form? It's a floater there buddy. And works pretty good, however it takes some getting used to. Check out the help system...they have some very usefull info there. The nice thing about the new coordinate entry is that all you need to do is pull the cursor in the direction you need (making sure you have the smart cursor on) and then enter the length of the data you want. Gertrudes your auntie. To find the datum do as you used to...place the cursor over a point, hit the "G" key and tab. The tab will open the floating data bar at the cursor location. A second tab will enter the "X" coordinate and so on...make sure (and this is the one you need to know) that you tab out of the coordinate that you need otherwise the system drops out and you are back to square one. McPete
  16. Found out that you must tab through the floating display past the x or y to set a datum point to start.
  17. Seem to be having a brain freeze with 2008. I am attempting to set a datum point on the corner of a rectangle and then enter the distance from that point to start the first point of a new rectangle. In 12.5 all you had to do was set the datum point to be 0,0...tab into the proper x or y data field and enter your distance. Is there a new way to accomplish this simple task with 2008?
  18. Does anyone know if OZCAD is upgrading Windoor for 2008?
  19. Kyle, VW uses a global position for all hatch. If you want to reposition individual patterns best thing to do is convert the hatch pattern to lines and move it into the desired position. This takes up alot of memory and requires that you create a larger area of hatch providing enough extra that can be cut and removed once the pattern is in place. I use textures rather than hatch for tile patterns. Textures may moved (mapped) to a desired position independantly. You can then print to grayscale for presentation. See drawing below constructed using 4 overlay viewports. Pete A
  20. Simon, Compound wall surfaces are going to eventually show up in VW. So until then I think the best way to add surfaces like what you are attempting is to treat them as interior millwork. I use all of the benifits of the 3D solid environment to build an accurate model with all trim detail projected and positioned as it would be in real time. It sounds to me like the simplest way to accomplish your task is to create a profile in 2D along with a path...then extrude the profile along the path. One profile could include the base, shoe and chair rail with a second profile for the carpet surface. Once the extrusions are complete you can insert 3D solids in the position of the doors and windows (the same size as the unit dimension but deep enough to penetrate the extrusions...then subtract the solids from the extrusions. It really is very simple, quick and painless once you get the hang of it. Below is a detailed model of a structure with several materials and varied elevations and positions on the exterior walls. I used the same procedure as above to achieve the results. Using my standard wall definitions with sheetrock-stud-sheathing the window and doors were inserted with trim that was deep enough to show proud of the exterior finish materials. Hope this provides another way of which there are many. Pete
  21. I have noticed this issue on many occasions. All of my wall styles are pre-set with textures. If I want to change the wall to another style it retains the previous texture. In order to update the new wall I must go in and edit each wall change texture through the OIP.
  22. Use the 3d Reshape tool
  23. This is the first time I have used VW window tool in over a year. I normally have used Windoor, however I needed a special segmented casement that Windoor will not create in a single unit. The problem is that everything renders in OpenGL but none of the faces render in FQR... Anyone seen this before...I'm stumped with what to do...checked all the classes and overrides...come up with nothing.. pa
