  1. We have had some luck with this method (more so with VW 10 and 11, not so much 12). (12.5.2 did solve the corruption by minimizing for us). Create a new blank file, and workgroup reference in the corrupt drawing, bringing in all layers. If that worked, then you can just delete the Workgroup Reference and request that the drawings stay in the file, and not be removed. Then you will just have to somehow set up you saved views, viewports, and such... The best way is to keep a backup copy handy, through nightly backups, rotating drives out, or using the backup feature in VW. Thats my 2 cents. Good luck. Spinner
  2. Wow, We have the same problem, but never related it to stacking layers. Actually never went so far as to try to find the reason. We thought it was a problem having the source file open in the background while WR updating to the target file. Ours duplicated layer some links, and we were doing a render job, and it tweaked the textures since there were 2 walls perfectly overlaid on each other. THis nasty pattern came over all the walls and roofs. Anyone else? We are on Mac OS 10.4.7, VW 12.5.1, Mac Pro 2x2.66 GHZ.
  3. A consultant sent over a PDF of tome energy calculations and we place them on our drawings for submittal to the departments. When we import the PDF using Import PDF, the digital signature (that shows up while in Adobe Reader) is not there (blank). VW 12.5.1, Mac os 10.4.7 Thoughts? Thanks, Kevin
  4. So one of our employees may have inadvertently relocated a file, and renamed it, so using Spotlight finder, is no luck. I tried by last modified date, typicall file name...nothing. We have a title block file for that Barn drawing that is workgroup referenced in. Is there a way to see what files are referencing a specific title block file? For instance, open the title block file, and see where it is being sent? I know this sounds like a stretch, but might save some work. We do have a Backup coming tomorrow afternoon, but I fer it will not work (see below), but any help would be greatly appreciated. My fear though is that it was deleted, gone, see ya, and our rotating backups do not have a copy as it was some time ago it was worked on, and it fell in between our monthly backup archiving... Stats, VW12.5.1, Mac os 10.4.7, Thanks again, Spinner
  5. All, Browsing through my workspace editor, I could not find a way to create a key shortcut to toggle on and off zoom line thickness. Is this possible? Thanks Spinner
  6. Received a site plan from a consultant, and went to import it on a Mac Pro 2x2.66 Ghz, running Mac OS 10.4.7, VW 12.5.1. It hangs, and one core of one processor is pegged @ 100%, for a min of 30 min. Then I force quit. I tried many different ways, reboot, etc... Then I moved over to a PPC G4 450 Mhz machine, running Mac OS 10.4.7, VW 11.5, and it came in just fine??? It imported in under a few minutes. Is this a VW12.5.1 problem, intel vs PPC problem? Any help would be great. A bit shocking that a $3000 machine gets tripped up by a file that a $75 machine handles with no sweat... The files I am importing are large, total around 33 MB, so emailing the files to people may be a problem. Thanks Spinner
  7. So I narrowed my problems above to a class, TOPO-x-sidewalk in the model, that was causing me problems. I deleted everything off that class, and still the clipping...I turned that class off and YAAAA, it worked great. In looking at the objects in that class, it consisted of lines, polylines, polygons, and arcs. There was no 3d info. It was odd, and I cannot figure out why that was the problem, but I need to start getting my billable time back up. Thanks, Spinner
  8. Confirmed also, We have an employee that minimizes documents, using the 'minus' button, and we have corrected her ways. For us it only happened with a minimize, not an Apple-Tilde, nor using Apple's Expose. This is the case for our Intel Mac Pros running VW 12.5.1, PPC G4 PowerMac running 12.5.1 Running Mac os 10.4.7 Vector-works 12.5.1 (architect/renderworks)
  9. I will send you the file, they are big, so I will zip them, and hope I can get it out to you. UPPDATE, It would seem that stack layers affects the clipping. I say that because when I open the file (stacked layers off by default) it rendered OK, then turned Stack layers on, then it clipped. Turned it off, then OK... Also, (I will post this elsewhere also) but when we went to workgroup reference it into the site file, there was the option to make layer links automatically. GREAT. Well that caused huge problems, as it made no less than 11 layer links, from just a few layers (4 layers). This caused rendering problems. I duplicated this with 2 brand new files and it appears that new locked layer links come in upon a work group reference while the file is open in the background. There is something very buggy with the auto layer links and maybe layer links in general. I did not notice this prior to 12.5.1 update.
  10. Attached are 2 photos. When rendering the views in FQRW, objects get clipped, between the viewer and a magical 'clipping plane'. It will not do this under open GL. pay attention to the trellis object and table. Weird.... The building model is workgroup referenced and layer linked into the site model. Under the real building model, no clipping exists. It does not matter if the view is from a Renderworks camera, or the set 3D view option. The only thing that changes if it is clipped or not is the render mode. Fast Quality. RW clips also. Is there a 'clipping plane' option that I am missing? Thanks, Running Mac ox 10.4.4, VW 12.5.1,
  11. Is it possible to make the 'POST' window there you type your comments/questions when posting larger (both width and height)? It seems to only hold 5 lines of text, before you have to start scrolling. Just a thought. Thanks.
  12. Katie, I did back save the file to 5 from 6, so that was not the problem. My solution, which I feel is not adequate for an office environment, but probably fine for home. Our setup. Single Mac os 10.4.7 server hosting Network Nome Directories for our workstations running Mac 10.4.7. Each employee logs in as their individual user, which is not a local admin for the computer, This is an attempt to limit them from installing software that could cause harm...bla bla bla. So for an employee to import a sketchup model received from a client, they need to log out, log in as the administrator, getting the login and password from me. Then 'get info' on the VW 12.5.1 App, check 'USE ROSETTA'. Then open the application. Since we do not place a serial # under the admin user for the local machine, we need to put in the serial #. Then go to file import, Sketchup, or you must reimport the item into your workspace. Finally the import sketchup works and it comes in OK. Save it to our network directory, job folder. Remember to quit and uncheck the Rosetta option, then log back in as the employee. For the PPC macs (G4 PPC Mac os 10.4.7, VW12.5.1), you still need to be logged in as the Local Administratior, for the utility to work. hmmmm. So that seems odd. Now I get to change logins and passwords again, as some employees hear 'please do not do install any software' as 'Sure we have no problem with you downloading music, games and installing any crap that you use at home, go for it!!' Seemless... Now this is not a rant at VW, but at the whole process. Myabe there is something VW can do about the PPC machines needing to be logged in as admin, not the user. That just seems odd to me. Anyway, these are my solutions, far from ideal. On a side note, when can we expect Acad 2007, and Sketchup 6 file support? With VW 13? or will there be a VW 12.5.2? Thanks,
  13. I tried the 'Rosetta' workaround and nothing. Same thing when not forcing under Rosetta. When I go to file, import Sketchup, nothing happens, no dialog box, no error, nothing. I have tried it, then removed the object from my workspace, re-imported it, nothing... VW 12.5.1, Mac OS 10.4.7, Intel Mac Pro. Thanks
  14. We were trying to get a full screen feature to do a presentation, without spending for the PRO version of QT. QT works fine, just wanted to try VLC. VW still crashes with h.264 rendering compression. Thanks, Spinner
  15. my method is to photocopy the page out of graphic standards, and keep it very handy. 'Expression of slope' Math, ehh, not for me from my cheat sheet: 1:12 - 4?46' - 8.3% 2:12 - 9?28' - 16.7% 3:12 - 14?02' - 25% 4:12 - 18?26' - 33.3% 5:12 - 22?30' - 41.4% 6:12 - 26?34' - 50% 7:12 - 30?0' - 57.5% 8:12 - 33?42' - 67% 9:12 - 36?52' - 75% 10:12 - 40?0' - 84% 12:12 - 45?0' - 100% Spinner
  16. I am having a problem viewing renderings from VW 12.5.1 and tried to solve it by exporting under different codecs. I am running Mac os 10.4.7, on a Mac Pro 2.66 Ghz, 2 GB RAM, and the 7300 video card. The first was the 'video' setting, which resulted in the image shown, when played in VLC 0.8.6a. The movie would not play and errors came out stating computer was to slow? Dropping frames. THis codec is RPZA? I tried under MPEG-4, and it was still slanted, but actually played. Under QuickTime everything is fine. So I am assuming it is a VLC thing. My main question for VW. When I try to export a wireframe animation using H 264, 2 frames render and an error stating "An unknown Error ID# -8960 has occurred" I hit OK, then I get the msg that the file was saved with 2 frames. I tried it with a new file, from scratch, same thing, 2 frames. Thoughts on the error code? Thanks Spinner TheVLC forum: http://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?t=32843
  17. Ahh, Thank you. May I ask how you came across that? Again, Thanks
  18. The image is at 72 dpi already. I took your advice, and reduced the image size in photoshop, and in VW, stretched it to fit the 150' long section, and it worked...It was about 90" wide, now about 20" wide. I did notice even as a PNG, it would still not render at the larger size. Is there a physical size limit on the textures used? If so is it file size? pixel dimension? physical dimension? Thanks, Spinner
  19. I am making an image prop from 3 images tiled in Photoshop, saved a a jpeg. The jpeg is not that large, maybe 1.4 MB? When I create an image prop from it, it shows as black, when rendering with Renderworks, but fine when under OpenGL. There is nothing I can do to make it render correctly under Renderowrks, even fast quality renderworks will not render it. The texture in the Resource pallet shows a black square, but when I edit it and select EDIT IMAGE COLOR, the image shows up fine. I have set the size correctly, but nothing gets it to work under RW. Creating other image props works fine, but just this one. I have uploaded the file to the following site for anyone to play with. http://www.craigrsmithaia.com/jobs/misc/ Mac os 10.4.7, VW 12.5.1, renderworks/Architect. Mac Pro 2x2.66 Ghz, 2 GB ram, 7300 vid card. Any idea what is going on? thanks, Spinner
  20. Well I just created one, it was actually quite easy..
  21. I am looking for a good CMU standing seam texture. The ones VW has are a running bond, and I cannot find the original image to edit, and we don't have any in office right now. Any locations for free images? Thanks Spinner
  22. Check under VW Preferences, Session tab, under the MAX # OF UNDOOS: there is a "Undo View Changes" Maybe you could give that a try? I think it ould work, but I do not have it checked. Spinner
  23. WOW, this is weird, when I went back into the file this morning, that was giving me problems, everything was OK, and the images were normal, no lag at all. The image shown above, is now corrected...hummm. Self fixing files!!! I did nothing to it yesterday other than export a copy to post to the web. When I reinsert them, they are fine, and appear to be regular sized, as you show. I know something is happening to the symbols, but just do not know where, how or why. The symbols in the files Plug in folder, are fine, and the Symbol in the VW Entourage file seem ok. Odd... Thanks, Spinner
  24. All, In a few files that we have inserted people into the drawings, We are noticing now that the file is making our computers come to a halt, and pegging the processors at 100%. I do not know how the people were inserted, but can only assume that they were used from the 00_Entourage_Figures file located in the VW12.5/Libraries/Objects-Imperial directory. When I go into and edit the 2d symbol, in the OIP it is listed as a picture, with a size of 3841 X 29178 Pixels. THe actual dimension size of the picture is: 1'9.642" in width, by 5'10 7/16" in height. We have multiple 2d symbols of people and when I inserted them a few months ago, everything was fine and the file was normal speed. Now some show us as grey boxes with an X through it, like it didn't draw them, just the outline of the 'picture' in the symbol. Ok so based on my very rough math and understanding abut pixels per inch, the image has a Pixel per inch of 73,526? That was found out by taking the pixel dim, and getting # of sq pixels, divided by the # of sq inches. When I bring in new images from the above folder, it shows up with roughly 156 pixels per inch, much much smaller (pixel dimension, not size dimension which looks fine, still about 5' tall.) We are on Mac Os 10.4.7, VW 12.5, with Mac Pro 2x2.66 Ghz, Nvidia 7300 graphics Card. It happens on both Mac Pros we have, and it just brings the computer to its knees until it draws the image? Any thoughts would be helpfull. Could it have happened from a VW12.0.1 to a VW 12.5 conversion? Was there andy conversion of the files? I know there was from VW11 to 12. I do not think we put these 2D symbols when we had VW11. To solve it, we are deleting the people, and instantly the file is fine, so it is definitely something with the file. I have attached a picture of the file and the OIP, so you can see what I am talking about. I have also uploaded the WV12.5 file. http://www.craigrsmithaia.com/jobs/Misc/ Thanks for any insight. Spinner
  25. I too have a Mac Pro with 2x2.66 Ghz, and the rendering, in render-works it much much faster than my old Power Mac 800 mhz. THis is not exactly what you were looking for, but on the Mac, all 4 cores are maxed when rendering images/movies in renderworks. Other rendering modes, raidiosity, only uses one core @ 100%, so there is no multiple core support. I also posted that when using HDRI files, the cores are not maxed out, unknown why, as it is still renderworks. Anyway, my 2 cents Kevin
