  1. Houcad- I agree with your surpise by not having much discussion on this topic. I know for a fact that there are a lot of firms that are multi-user and deal with the issues that you are speaking about. NNA actually created the forum a while back after I asked for it repeatedly... That said, we are constantly struggling the the user folders. On a regular basis, VW likes to crap out and not "see" the designated files. I then have to manually re-point the user folder pref to the server location. The help files and manual write up do nothing to really explain how this is supposed to work. For us, it is a matter of trial and error. I am trying to get things working again right now, and if I can shed any light on your issues I will try.
  2. Eire- You should repost this out on the General message board. You will get a lot more notice there.
  3. Joz- That is a good way to be thinking about it. You will be using file referencing to do what you are talking about. If you do not know the basics of setting that up, the online help tools are pretty good about it. HTH
  4. This sounds like a permissions issue. You should be able to see them, but not access them though. I would start with Get Info on one file, make sure that eveyone has read-write access and then restart VW to see if that helps. In all truth, we had to hire an ex-Apple engineer to fix the issue for us... HTH
  5. Try putting it in the Document Context Menu via the workspace editor and see if that works. Besides, what's the point ?
  6. It is, but it is not as clean as using the hidden line rendering feature. Plus the Artistic renders can really take a long time to render, esp. in multiple viewports.
  7. It was actually work a couple of days ago. I will post it again on Monday
  8. How about the Hidden Line rendering style with shadows?
  9. On occasion, I am getting a glitch in the rendering where any rendered scene also shows the underlying wireframe. It typically occurs when I am in mod layers, but I have had it happen once in a viewport. The only way to "fix" it is to quit VW and restart. It seems to trigger if I pan a rendered view. It also happens in hidden line, OpenGL. An example is attached. Has anyone else seen this?
  10. Here is a little thing that I am pretty sure used to work in earlier versions. Has anyone have a suggestion on a work around? The wall in the symbol is not as wide as the wall it is being inserted into, and it will not break the wall in any rendered views. Other objects that are thinner than the wall have no problems. Or. is this a bug?
  11. Try turning off Auto-Join in the VW preferences. We have noticed a number of issues with walls when auto-join is turned on. You will find the control in VW>Preferences>Edit Tab>Auto Join Walls radio button unchecked Hope that helps!
  12. I was happy to see that I can now use associative dims in a viewport, but was dismayed that I can still not use associative dimensions on locked objects. WGR's are locked by default, and unlocking them really can create some havoc, even if you dont move or manipulate anything. It would really be great to have associative dims working on locked objects. Am I missing something?
  13. No problem Robert - I will send it in.
  14. Scott- In the new file that you created, apply whatever you want the building to look like (ie fills, textures, etc). The settings from the original file should over-ride the class defaults of the target file. We have a similar situation right now, and we are not having that particular issue.
  15. I have been working with the room finishes, the space tool and the room finish library/schedule. Most everything works as I would expect it to, until I come to the two way aspect of the schedule. If I make an edit in the schedule to a particular finish designation, it changes it there on the schedule, but does not link the edit back to the Space itself. Therefore, when I next go into the Space OIP, to edit finishes thru there, the item that I changed in the schedule reverts back to whatever the setting in the OIP is (assuming that I do not update it in the OIP too). I think this might be a small oversight in the coding. I would imagine it should work just like the windows and doors do. If I edit the name of the space, or the room number of the space though, they do change in the space OIP, so that works rather nicely. Also, while we are at it with the room finish schedule, could the room finish legend also have a live link to the room finish schedule, so that I would not have to re-create it every time the finish schedule changes? Right now, it still creates a static worksheet. Just a thought!
  16. I have also tried the ID tool with walls and got nowhere with that either. The settings for the tool are grayed out in the OIP and the tool prefs, and the wall does not get tagged. It does create a marker, but there is no way to edit it.
  17. OK - Maybe I should have been a little clearer on my post, so I apologize! I am really interested in how firms are using VW in a network environment. You know, WGRefs, User Folders, etc. How do you get multiple people working on the same job at the same time? How you do you use the Notes Databases, Finish Schedules, etc.? We are pretty well set up in the server side of things, but thanks for the posts regarding that info. It is always interesting to see how others are doing it. I have read a lot of earlier posts about some of this, and it seems that others are having some of the same issues we have had, and I know there are some real skilled CAD managers and the like out there. BTW - If anyone of you wants a job...
  18. Our firm is on the verge of growing over the next 4 months to multiple seats of VW 2008. What are other firms doing in terms of server setup and multi-user environments? I am particularly interested in hearing if anyone has started using the User Folders in the VW Preferences. I have not had the opportunity to work with it yet, but it looks like there is some potential there. Our biggest obstacles have been in sharing the default libraries, notes databases, etc. I would love to hear some scenarios from larger firms that are using VW too. Thanks very much!
  19. Would it be possible to add a discussion area to the Forums that deals strictly with working in a multi-user environment? Most of my issues over the years deal with working over a network, wg refs, notes databases on a server, etc. It looks like 2008 starts to address a lot of the multi-user issues, and it would be great not to have topics for this buried. I know that there are a bunch of users who have VW deployed over large groups of people, and it would be great to get their insight on how they handle that! Thanks very much and keep up the great work at NNA!
  20. On the Mac, you can also go System Preferences>International>Input Menu and activate the Keyboard Viewer. Also check the "Show input menu in menu bar" at the bottom of the International pane. You will then see a flag icon in the upper right corner next to the clock. That will give you access to an on screen keyboard, where you can select the font that you desire and see the various ASCII symbols that reside with each key. Make sure you try the option and shift-option modifiers to see all the symbols.

Same for me - straight out of the box is simplest. I use the None class for all my existing conditions though.
  22. Does anybody can tell me how to set the mutins in a door transom better than imperial/cottage style... (that was my second issue, cf. 3 rd picture, first message above.) Olly - Unfortunately, the type of control you are looking for does not exist in the door or window tool at this point. My suggestion to you would be to create the symbol with no muntins, then use the mullion tool, configure it to the size muntin bar that you desire and then place it in line with the transom that you have drawn. This process will get you what you are looking for.
  23. Andrew - I got an email from NNA saying that you need to run 12.5 in Rosetta for the Sketchup Plug-in to work. It will not work in Univeral Binary (yet). I assume that you are running Mac OSX.
  24. As a follow up - I am beginning to think that this is a Intel Mac issue - my other machines that are PowerPC are not having this issue. I have fully re-run the 12.5 updater and I still do not have the import working. My friend has a MacBook with 12.5 running and he can not get the Sketchup Import to work either, so I def. think this is an Intel Mac issue.
  25. Katie - I have tried everything short of reinstalling the program and running the 12.5 updater. Nothing is getting it to work. When I go to File>Import>Import Sketchup, nothing happens at all. No dialogue box or anything else. The only standard workspace that has the import option is Architect Classic.
