  1. HI Kevin, I should have bought more RAM., but. did not see a need for it. I don't really do that much any more, take on contracts in the winter etc., but 4K was hard enough to justify for a laptop. Having said that, I don't think it will be a problem once they figure out the Memory handling issue. I have been mucking about with 750 MB RAM files and still no crash. My main problems only happen in Texture Mapping and I am only doing that so I can understand what others are talking about. The kind of work I have always been involved in always finishes in C4D.
  2. Another way around this besides Pat's explanation is to simply remove the redundant part of the thread geometry. Just sweep the angular thread only slightly inside the bolt shaft. That would preclude any intersecting geometry at the centre of the rotation.
  3. I don't know the answer to that. I could speculate a half dozen theories, but still not have it. BTW, does it work for you now.
  4. HI Piotr, There is a way to shell a mesh, but the mesh has to be what they call "water tight" In 3D printing. The model is not. Imported I am assuming. If the mesh was generated by Vectorworks, it can be processed to use "Shell" giving it a thickness. Sorry I am of not help on this problem
  5. I think I know what you mean? I think you're asking if a sweep could start with one profile and end with another. Is that a correct statement?
  6. HI Kevin, I am experiencing memory handling problems also with my new Laptop M# chip. I only have the base config. 18 GB RAM. I don't experience your problem, mine are all in Rendering. For example. I know not to try to adjust a texture map scale with the slider. Instant freeze. Another example. I know when memory is confused when the rendering window stops displaying the GI feedback and just spits the picture out a minute later. No crash though, but do restart. Another example. in Rendering when I go to save as occasionally, the dialogue box is blank. I can save and quit. I don't know whether it is Sonoma, VW's or a combination of both.
  7. Hi Funkart, Your problem appears to be intersecting geometry on the thread. I just change the pitch slightly and it worked. Try adjusting it.
  8. Hi Peter, How are things "down under". I am becoming more familiar with your part of the world. it was not really a question about furniture in general, but the "corporate look furniture" and what Do architects/designer do when faced with having to build those pieces. Building fluffy things and button pocketed furniture does not lend itself well to CAD systems. It was a Saturday afternoon question as I was building these pieces and realized the hoops my client has to go through.
  9. When the impending VW store opens and if I am sill alive to see it, it should be extremely useful as most VW users work in a familiar paradigm. But, it will be problematic. The one that bothers me the most is there is nothing to stop someone from getting a nice model and uploading it to Turbo Squid for sale as a VW model with history. That will be one of the great things of a VW store, is the models can be modified. Although I have built models, site models, etc. under contract, I also build them for free if someone is struggling. If anyone asks on the forum, I would and have built models for free assuming I am not being taken advantage of. Yes Tom, they are Vectorworks models. They are built as close to the physical pieces as possible. It is hard to model fluffy things accurately. The beauty of these, is that you could change a lot of things very quickly as they all have history and texture map them any way you want.
  10. HI Guys. Thanks for this little chat. I am long retired (18 years), but get bored in the winter, so I take on contracts. This is what I am working on. These are all VW's models that have history and can be modified extensively. I am not sure what the client plans after, but they may become available to the VW store......if the VW store ever becomes available.
  11. Hi Gadzooks...love that handle This furniture does have to be specific and it is challenging. I have already modelled the sofa above. But, I guess what you are all saying is this is an anomaly and not really something that would be of interest to the majority of designers.
  12. But, if it something specific, has to be, etc. Like the picture below. I know you can model very well, but if you can't is this a "show stopper" ,
  13. I was not thinking that, but now that you bring it up.....I wonder.....thanks for that. Although it would be the client who would have to work with that.
  14. Yes, it was vague, sorry about that. If you were/are designing a foyer for a big project, perhaps a large bank or something. Is getting 3D models that accurately reflect new 2024 furniture models problematic?
  15. I am building furniture specific models for a client. Although there are probably millions of furniture pieces for sale online, not to mention VW's Library. These pieces are simply current Wayfair and/or Bed, Bath and beyond, etc. new furniture designs I am assuming for a home design, this is not an issue, but for larger Venues, is this a factor?
  16. I had some time this afternoon. I am not a Landscape Architect, but use the site model where I need it. If I needed a pump track in my site model I would build it in from the beginning. I realize that this may or may not work for everyone, but maybe it will help someone. Below is a short Video showing the steps.
  17. Hi Christiano, Unfortunately no. But, this entire process involved much more that Duplicate Along a Path (DAP), but DAP was critical in the process on several occasions. But, using NURBS, you can create a shape along two paths and then using various tools built into Vectorworks create objects like the one below. This was a combination of DAP, Loft NURBS and Create Surface from Curves.
  18. I don't do much with Terrain models anymore, but I understand them. Unless there was something unusual about the data, I would build the track into the survey data at the start and not as a modifier. 1-Convert my Survey data from contour to 3D loci. 2-Build the tract separately 3-Go to low poly conversion mode and convert the track to 3D Polygons. 4-Select the converted file and extract points using the Extract Tool. (use select all entities) 5-Place this points where you want them removing points that are above grade 6-Create Site model. See below. NOTE: only had a few. minutes this morning and did not use complex tract for this purpose.
  19. It looks like you have overlapping polygons. Check to see you have not accidentally duplicated the structure.
  20. Glad you got it going, you had good advice from everyone and you can always count on @EAlexander. Duplicate along a path is a little more complex then Duplicate Array and you have to understand its idiosyncrasies. It would have produced what you wanted. This takes a little time. I have been using it a great deal over the last few weeks. An example of it's power is below.
  21. Although "Duplicate Along a Path" is one of the most powerfulI tools in the Vectorworks arsenal, it seems to be the most under used.
  22. Circular Array (Duplicate Array) is also a good option, perhaps better in this instance, but it does not have a preview or "Start Offse"t which I have found problematic over the years.
