  1. I don't see it as an option in the viewports, so you might be out of luck.
  2. depends on how it's made. Solids can be "cut" using the cookie cutter method. More complex 3d things like NURBS and 3d polys have their own methods of sectioning. After you've got that down it's all going to be about finding the mitre angle and chopping away.
  3. by the same token: when creating a symbol, having the ability to create a new class for the symbol within the dialogue.
  4. I've seen in previous posts that high processng speeds and lots of RAM are reccomended for better render outputs. I'd like a little more specific info. Does Renderworks take advantage of more than two processors...fully? I've had tech people tell me that most software won't. Does RAM affect rendering time? How much is acceptable. I've heard that two gigs are reccomended. What can I expect as far as increases in rendering performance if I double my RAM?
  5. attributes panel controls you dash styles, lineweights, colors, etc.

the image prop will default to a constant reflectivity. This will work to show reflections on surfaces but not pick up specular highlights from lights. create your file in photoshop, and set the background color of the person to something you can mask out.

V12 renderworks has fog effects. As well as weather.
  8. I'd like a better way to stop a render. I try escape and ctrl-. But on my PC I almost always have to shut the program down to stop an intensive render. It's the more complex models where I really need to stop a render if things aren't great, and it seems as if VW can't deal with the stop.
  9. I'm using the latest version. Created in the latest version. I haven't checked object types but I was working with a lot of light objects.
  10. I've been mulling over artlantis for some time. I asked them a while back for some renderings that would persuade me. Do you guys have any that I might take a look at? Perhaps you could post some side by side comparisons of the renderings....
  11. Just got through a file where I was reorganizing stuff. I noticed that when I change the class of objects to one that is already invisible, the objects do not disappear. I have to manually toggle the class on and off to get the objects to disappear. I was a little freaked at first, because while I could see them, I couldn't select them.
  12. I love the renderworks camera. Since I work mostly in an industry where we have actual cameras, I'm pondering how to put a renderworks camera inside a symbol of a television camera (which is important for space allocation purposes) and be able to activate and control the camera. Is this possible? Also, while I'm at it....depth of field? Love to have that too.
  13. I'd like to be able to, when creating lighting sources, give them a name or ID. Then, when I'm tooling around in 3d, I'd like to be able to call up a lighting manager pallete that lists all the lights I have in the file. From this manager pallete, I could: adjust the intensity. adjust the spread and beam angle. adjust the color. adjust the focus point. adjust the position in real world coordinates. swap out a gobo. I realize that one could do this simply by selecting all lights. But in most of my models lights also are inserted into pieces of architecture, or at the very least as part of a symbol (floor lamp, sconce, etc.) Some sort of global manager would be great.
  14. I've noticed this as well on my office machine: 1.8 dual processor G5 w/ 1 gig of ram. OpenGL causes the monitor to flicker as it updates. I attribute all OpenGl problems to a deficient video card. But the interative zooming problem is there.
  15. I had a plug in for this somewhere...back in V10. Check out PanzerCad or some of the other 3rd party sites.
  16. of course there's always photoshop. Sometimes it's just easier to tweak the pixel rather than fight the physics.
  17. what platform are you using?
  18. No, the version is important. If she's not getting the message that informs her of opening an older version then the file is unrecognizable. A couple of things to check: Sometimes the mail program will corrupt the file, especially if there is no file extension added. Zipping the file will protect it from mail corruption. The file browser on a mac will not highlight files that are not in it's list of file types. Opening from the File->Open menu will give you more options. Other ways of opening the file (dragging to the application icon, double clicking, etc) just won't work.
  19. Are you maybe then looking for someone to just do the work of creating image props for you? I'd be willing to take that on for you if you had a large quantity to do.
  20. specular highlights maybe too strong? Also, the mapping may have been corrupted. Try making a new texture and replacing the old one.
  21. Oh they're lighting up alright. The fans start whirring, my computer wants to shut itself off, the monitors shut down. It's like watching smoker run uphill. I don't have this problem with my home rig (windows machine) just this one at the office. Any other Mac users out there have this problem?
  22. Very useful for placing objects upon a floor or ledge, or getting bottom oriented objects (castors on decks) to flush up.
  23. I've been experiencing a lot of crashing lately on my office machine (Mac os X dual 1.8 ghz). This almost always happens when I'm doing some pretty intense renderings (area/line lights are a sure way to crash). So I did some renders and watched the system monitors. VW will take up all but .5 percent of CPU processes during a render! Could that be the reason why the computer crashes?
  24. Now that the stair tool has all sorts of variations allowed within it, why not allow the user to use a custom drawn banister profile and let the stair tool draw it in for you.
