It will not only do the wedge shape but ALSO the semi circular shaped ramp (or roof). BTW, Roof Face is a very misleading name, it definitely should be called "super duper cool tool"?
  2. quote: Originally posted by Robert Anderson: Ramon, why not just use the ramp object? I did, but I need a wedge shaped ramp. Also a semi-circular wedge shaped ramp! Is there a way to tweak the ramp object?
  3. quote: Originally posted by mike m oz: Ramon - use individual roof objects. They can be any shape you require and have a uniform slope applied to them. Any shape? I'm not sure how to do it. BTW, I would be needing a wedge shaped ramp, not an orthogonal one.
  4. Thanks all for the help. OK, I was able to create the Hybrid Symbol. But I'm stuck trying to rotate the 3D extrude. It's a ramp that is inclined about 40? right in the drawing (more or less like this: /). How the heck do I establish the rotation plane in order to get the 1:12 ADA required slope? And, Mon, please tell me it's easier than the "two minute" director's chair...
  5. I want to make a ramp and some inclined Site pavements. I'd like to do it with the AEC/Floor menu because it will have an appropriate fill or hatch, but as we all know floors cannot be rotated in the Z axis. On the other hand, a 3D Poly can be rotated but will not display fill in Top/Plan View. Is there a solution other that placing (in Plan) a filled or hatched 2D polygon under the 3D polygon?
  6. [/qb]Yes, that's what we do, too. I just don't like the idea of separating existing, new, and demo by layer. Partly because I don't like having to put new objects on the existing layer if I want to insert them in an existing wall. [/QB] I think I didn't explain that correctly. We don't separate existing, new, and demo by layer but by class, as I think you said. We just add the rectangle in the demo layer because it seems futile to do a 3D wall in demo class. Unless you want to keep tabs on sq ft or cu. ft. of wall demolition for some reason.

Also, it is a good idea to use the backup option in the Prefs. Undoable operations are sometimes resolved with going to the backup in the same folder as the drawing document (in Mac, at least)

  9. quote: Originally posted by Kristen: Our office uses classes only to distinguish between New, Existing, and Demo. For example: E-wall N-wall stud N-wall masonry etc. Otherwise you end up with some weird situations if you want to, say, put a new door in an existing wall. That's also my system. BTW, when I want to put a new door in an existing wall (happens all the time) I fix the "hole in the wall" in the DEMO sheet by inserting a demo rectangle with the appropriate hatch, color & dash as you mentioned. As a rule in remodelations anything removed or demolished goes into the DEMO class.
  10. quote: Originally posted by Connie: I'm doing a house renovation project using version 10.5. I've drawn an existing floor plan and now want to create new classes that show both the areas to be demolished and the new configuration. Eventually the info will be separated into a demolition plan and a new floor plan, but some of the existing plan configuration will be shown where work isn't being done. What's the best way to set this up? Don't know much about v10.5 but I would do separate Plans for each and then in the end do a creative multiple Viewport collage turning on and off whatever class you need.

  12. I would appreciate is anyone could direct me/ send me/ sell me a director's chair symbol. Or any good symbol depot. Thank You
  13. quote: Originally posted by CipesDesign: What happens if you change the starting z to -6 and the the thickness the 6 ? Then, re-create your link, just to be sure... Thanks for the reply. That's what I have in the Object Info. But, now I get it. You use layer links. I like to set each of the layers to isometric so that the items remain editable. But when I try other views things go haywire between the layers, esp in perspective. Which makes me go back to the Model vs Links issue, which is not completely clear to me. I have used Model because it seems easier to add or substract layers: you just click one or two. Layer Links makes to select all of the layers again and again. The VW manual just says Model and Links are similar. But I have not had enough experience to tell the difference. (Don't let the Power User label next to my name fool you. I don't even know where that came from.) Thanks for the help.
  14. The "Z" value at the Slab-1 layer is set at 0" and the slab thickness is set at -6". The Mod-Floor-1 layer "Z" value is also set at 0".
  15. I also reported the problem to NNA Tech via phone and was told to throw away the pref file (can't remember which or where), empty the trash and restart. VW 11.5 asked for the serial number upon starting up and the problem did go away.
  16. quote: Originally posted by islandmon: Your Slab-1 Layer 'Z' value is set to above the plane. I'm not sure I get that.
  17. BTW, I checked the layer and class for Slab-1 and it was visible. I changed the Slab-1 layer projection to Perspective bur still the slab is not seen.
  18. I can easily do walkthroughs in the Plan-1 layer. But can't make the Slab-1 visible and everything seems to be floating above the aparent floor (actually a void). Since I have a 12" diff between interior and exterior, door bottoms and furniture are seen 12" above the wall bottom. And, this not being Harry Potter's house looks weird.
  19. It's called FormFonts.com At the moments it caters mostly to A-CAD and, of course SketchUp. Dang!!, Nemetschcheck should have bought SketchUp a long time ago. I was sent a reply to my email expressing this concern and was told that VW items would definitely be included but had had a slow start. You can still buy tons of great textures.
  20. I have an iBook (1.3 GHz) and of course is slow on less than basic renderings. Other than that VW's performace is quite good. My latest project is a 26 MB document. My real concern is backing up stuff libraries (or databases). I find that Finish or Sheet Schedules do not update between laptop and desktop. Seems like the actual database is someplace in the Library folder. So if you add items in any of them you end up with a mixed up situation.
  21. I am very interested in FormFonts' super cool symbols that, unfortunately VectorWorks lacks. I have visited the site for months, but I still don't see a reason to suscribe. I can't find ANY VW 3D symbols. Is there a similar site or a script or program that can translate a SketchUp symbol to VectorWorks? There has to be a way.
  22. My mistake. The import-DWG test I did with PowerCADD could not solve the Viewport issue. But importing with VW did. I will be asking a Auto CAD friend for confirmation.
  23. VW does a pretty good job at importing DWG files. But I'm trying to export a Sheet Layer exactly as I configured it, and what gets translated is the design layer without any of the (Sheet Layer) annotations or proper crop. It does not seem right. Esp when the Help info says: "The active VectorWorks sheet layer creates a new paper space layout, and viewports create DXF viewport entities with the same scale, view, and projection. Viewport objects (lines, circles, symbols, groups, etc.) are exported as DXF viewport entities; annotations become paper space entities. Rectangular crop objects not exported, but other crop objects are."
  24. GOOD NEWS!!! Click on the Space you want and check the "Text Rotation" in the upper half of the Object Info and enter the angle to which you want to rotate the Title.
  25. I tried it yesterday, again and again. No way...
