  1. On any project now, I choose 'Update All Viewports' and I get a crash every single time, on all my projects now. If I choose to Update Viewport individually, I get no crashes. What a pain... Any ideas?
  2. Thanks Kaare. I wanted to avoid another light to avoid slowing down render speed. I will try it out and see how the performance is. Thanks!
  3. Anyone know of a way to simply change the shadow colour a light casts? I am looking for a soft grey. Thanks
  4. Good advice. With this scenario, I may have dozens and dozens of textures. Do you think this will be weighty on file size, and moving around or rendering the drawing? Thanks.
  5. I use alot of 3D symbols when creating assemblies. I assign textures in all these symbols, and many of the same textures are used in different symbols. Every time I import another 3D symbol into the drawing, it asks me if I want to replace the existing texture that is currently in the drawing. I spend alot of time clicking the 'use ... use ... use ... use' buttons each time it asks to replace. Is there a way around this? Thanks
  6. I'm with Gytis. Some people claim that they gain more efficiencies, not necessarily on the processing speed, but on the size of the monitor. You'd be surprised how much time you spend zooming in/and moving your pallets around.
  7. I want to default some class visibility specifically for certain sheet layers prior to creating a viewport. The idea is, to create the viewport (without turning on/off a handfull of classes), applying the viewport to a sheet layer, and the class settings of the sheet layer apply to the viewport I just created. Can I do this?
  8. Glad it worked out for you. It will pay for itself many times in efficiencies and productivity. I have had to revert back to 11.01 as well. 11.5 screws up the geometry of many of my 3D symbols.
  9. Anyone know a good program for Mac that converts an image file to Vector Lines?
  10. Thanks gentlemen. Sounds like the image shader is the easier one.
  11. Anyone know how to change the direction of the grain in a wood texture. It is currently the opposite direction of where I want it... Thanks
  12. David, indeed one would expect at least double (and I would guess it is more than that) - I havent used a stop-watch. The quietness of the G5s are phenominal (like Alanmac indicates), and the Tiger operating system is great as well. I bet you will see some big increase when 64bit Cinema comes out. If you an get a deal on the 2.0, then run with it. All the best, Eddie
  13. Hey DDD, I have a Dual 1G G4 at home, and I use a Dual 2.5 G here at the office. Both of them run Cinema 4D 9. I find quite a large speed increase between my G4 and the G5. I think you will be happy. VW runs slow on all machines I have tried from G4's to G5's to PCs. I would guess between the 2, I get at least double the speed in rendering. Eddie
  14. Oops, turned off my snap point notification. Thanks
  15. My snap points dont display anymore. Any ideas? (And yes, the Snap Point constrait button is on). Thanks
  16. Jon, I run ProTools 6.4 at home, and it doesnt like Tiger. I partitioned the my hard drive and installed both operating systems, Panther (for when I run ProTools) and Tiger, for when I run my normal daily activities including Vectorworks. I have a DIGI 001, and no dongle is reqd. As far as I know (and maybe you can update me) ProTools doesnt have an update for Tiger ...???
  17. I think that VW 11 alltogether is generally a very slow program, compared with some others I have tried ie AutoCad, Solidworks, Inventor. I even had better speed with AutoCad on an old 1.6G PC with 3Ds Max and 700 Megs of RAM doing similar CPU intensive tasks. I have been using VW with a G5 Dual 1.8 Macintosh system, and I just upgraded to a G5 Dual 2.5 Mac, both with around 2 Gigs of RAM. I honestly cannot say that I see a huge speed improvement between both of the Macs. I also have VW 11 running on the same PC as I used to use with the old AC system. Some things I found were actually faster on the PC (like selecting tons of polygons). I totally love VW and the features, and the interface. The speed on all my machines is substandard for a CAD machine in my opinion. This is especially noted when my G5s blisters through Photoshop files, Cinema 4D renderings. Everything I bought both of my Pro Macs for works absolutely fantastic except for VW. I dont think this is just a silly Mac vs PC competition either. I think everyone is complaining right across the board on all platforms. I have no other metaphor for the program except that it feels like VW totally constipated, no matter how fast a machine you have.
  18. 1. Polygon mesh smoothing is huge for me. 3. Soft edge shadows is equally needed.
  19. I use many 3D symbols in a complete drawing that I 'snap' together to create a modular product. Is there a way to trace an outline of a series of symbols attached together in say a plan view, and get a 2D outline? (To outline how much space this product will take up) Thanks
  20. Lynda, if I hold down my Apple and my decimal key, it works for me, and it halts almost immediately despite of the file size. I realize you are on PC, however try your CTRL/. or ALT/.
  21. I am using a rectangular profile to mimic the piece of steel that wraps not unsimilar to a ribbon around the shaft. Can I email you an image? Thanks
  22. Interesting scenario. I need to create an auger bit, where the ribbon of the auger wraps around the shaft. I have created a helix spiral, and a profile of the ribbon needs to wrap around this path to create the auger. When extruded, the profile seems to turn at a different axis rather than following the path. I could send a rendering to show the issue. Let me know if you can help. Thanks
