  1. Chris I sent you my address. Johnathan I have a roof with 3 different ceiling heights. I can almost get the auto roof to work but finally run into a dead end. So now you ungroup into roof faces and edit them individually. The problem is you can't figure out where the intersections are from the top plan view. When you start connecting the roof faces with multiple roof planes it gets really difficult. What I would like to edit the roof faces individually, is a 3D command that works like the 2D extend or join, so you could select two roof faces and have VW join and trim them. Thanks guys.
  2. I can almost get the roof to work by moving things 1" at a time or changing the shape a little. It's way to time consuming but it almost works. I seem to finally run into a dead end I can't solve. Chris using your method after you have the roof ungrouped and you change a roof face, what command do you use to extend and clip each roof face so you get a clean roof like the one "create roof" generates?
  3. Geez... I had worked too hard trying to get this roof to work. I was used to double clicking to get those handles without really know why they showed up. Thank you again for the help Jonathan.
  4. What is the command that let's you edit a roof path. I want to edit the original polygon that the roof is built on. So it will give me the polygon handles that control the shape of the roof. Thanks
  5. Geez... I downloaded the demo version of C4D and I don't think I'm grown up enough to work with that. I clicked and clicked and held down keys and dragged the mouse and it didn't even know was there. Only thing I was able to figure out was how to quit.
  6. I've been using the 130nr and it's been flawless.
  7. Thanks everyone. Robert the roof is on the way. Jake & Delmer - I'll try to figure out the roof face tool for a whole roof. I've only used it for porches so far.
  8. I'm trying to build a roof (all hip) on a 3000 foot house. I have no problem until I start adjusting the different wall heights. After I change a couple of heights it goes back to a polygon and gives me an error message that it's too complex. I tried building each roof section based on it's height but they don't tie the roofline together correctly. I get valleys in the middle of the roof and strange little shapes all over. How do you guys do this? Thanks
  9. I've spent a bunch of hours on this and finally decided I like 4 light sources. One just off each corner of the drawing set at about 45 degs. I also like them bright, two opposite at 90% and the other two at 60% with just a little ambient at 10%. You can also get really nice results by adding a little color to get a sunset light. I like the result for Final Renderworks. Exporting to image and puting on putting on a photo looks amazingly real.
  10. OK so you are still saving each page by typing in a name manually. You had me really excited for a minute. The way this should work is just like batch printing to our printers. You can print out 10 sheet, on my HP 130nr it takes about 5mins per page, and go do something else. Or even if the batch print saved as separate pages they should all save without any intervention on our part and save them under the sheet name from the drawing. Has anyone put this on the wish list? Thank you for the help.
  11. This thing has still got my panty hose in a bunch! Kevin - Are you now saving the sheets individually with the sheet names from your list in VW? Steve - Resolve still gives you a dialog box for each sheet requiring a manual name. I have worked on this issue several time without success and finally decided to give up. I have Acrobat 7 installed. Under the Printer List I have "Adobe PDF 3015.102". Nothing about batch printing. I know sometimes I'm dddddddddumb about this stuff. Help!
  12. When you read the help file on using "batch print" it sounds like it should print all the sheet selected without bring up the print dialog box on each sheet. One of the problems is it uses the file name instead of saving the sheets with the sheet names in the dialog box. This requires you manually name each sheet as you save it which negates the value of batch printing. I know sometimes I can't see the forrest, am I missing something simple here?
  13. I would guess that NNA will follow the 90/10 rule. They could code the most cpu intensive operations to take advantage of 64 bit, changing a small percentage of VW code and get some major improvements in overall speed. These are improvements that will make us G4 users lust for G5's. You can also count on many of the system operations to take much less time on the G5's using 64 bit processing. The hardware always out runs the software by a year or so.
  14. Travis, I do the same thing and I would love to figure out a way to texture a 2D object. It would really help make the rendered elevations more realistic. Problems like edges of things mostly. _________________________________________________________ Travis wrote : "It's not uncommon to add a few 2D polygons with fills (hatches or solids--patterns seem somewhat limited, when printed, when used in Viewports) in Annotations to help with the visual presentation."
  15. OK I write a VS that uses DoMenuTextByName(Class Visabilities) now how do I get the "v" key to call that script?
  16. First I have very little knowledge of VS but I want to learn. I tried to buy the manual but was told NNA doesn't sell it. I find it had to learn using the pdf manual but I'm working on it. My question is can I write a PIO that will send keystrokes to execute a menu command. I like using single keystrokes for commands and want to be able to press "v" to execute "class visablilities" as an example. VW will not let me use the "v" without a modifier in the menu commands but it will to select a PIO. If a custom PIO named class visibilities would send the keystokes to execute that command and then deselect it's self I would have my single keystroke command to anything I want. Is this good or flawed logic? Thanks for the help.
  17. Thanks guys. We really should be able to do this without using outside utility software. It's one thing to "trick out" VW from the workspace but exponential potential problems could result from when you customize multiple software. I really like the fact that working with the workspace is absolutely reliable. In fact I have not had a crash yet with 11.5. I have all these keys with letters on them to remind me of the commands and work instantly. Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease give this one thing!!!!!
  18. I am soo productive using single keystroke comands with my left hand while my right runs the mouse. It seems really odd that I can't use "v" for class visabilities or "s" for scale object... and etc. Thanks
  19. That is not a good workaround. It's interesting but makes everything including all the rest of the text backwards. The only workaround I've found is setting offset to zero. Then the dimension is not affected. Katie - Do I need to turn this in to the bug department???
  20. When I flip or mirror a view port my dimensions come out upside down. All of the info is below the line. I used to do this and it worked ok. It still works correctly if it's not in a view port. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks,
  21. Big difference is 10.4 will unleash the 64 bit power of the G5. Should be a real boost in performance and finally make having G5 worth while. You're a real clown...
  22. This is much larger problem using Artistic Cartoon. Gives you great edge definition but also a line at every segment. Most of the time FW is pretty good. I found a way to get spectacular results by using Render Bitmap then copy and pasting into Photoshop. Use stamp and heal to fix all the lines you want out (and anything else you want to do). Then "save as" jpg in photoshop and import that as jpg into VW. Comes back exactly the same size. Lot's of work but the results are really nice if you need it to be perfect. Larry
  23. Travis, I would like to see one of your section details. Would you be willing to do a screen capture and show me one? I find this is the most time consuming area of a set of plans and one I need to learn more about. Also do you use the "convert copy to lines" command and then draw your section details on that line object, on the section design layer? Then put it on a section sheet via a veiw port?
  24. Don - the convert copy to lines is definite improvment. The erasing is much easier now. I wish all the lines over the round windows and archways were deleted with the hidden line. Now do you do the rest of your drawing on the design layer with a vew port to your sheet layer? It looks like that would be the correct procedure rather than annotating the view port. Chris - I'm only learning but what I would like is to get a section that looks real. Something without all the crazy lines everywhere that hidden line doesn't remove. I'm not sure how DL would work but I'll be happy to learn it. Thank you both for the help.
  25. I seem to send a large percentage of my time drawing the framing section. I do a 3D section of the house then ungroup and erase lines for hours on the design layer. Make a view port to the framing sheet and draw annotation until I have a drawing. It seems like the most crude thing I do with VW. Does anyone have a better way to create this required sheet that is more efficient? Thanks for your help.
