  1. With Vectorworks 2023, I figured out that there is a major regression in section : in some conditions, objects made of extrude along path are not rendered with fill or hatch inside. Vectorworks is a great tool for conception and communication of projects, I think that false representation in sections because of a bug has to be put on top of the hierarchy of bug to correct. It is really confusing. In addition of the representation issue, you don’t know if it because material is not set or because of a bug and therefore, datas of material quantities can not be trusted… I hope that it will be corrected in SP1, SP2, so Vectorworks 2023 can be used instead of Vectorworks 2022. because all the work that has been done for this new release looks really great.
  2. Thanks @Samuel Derenboim for your help. I think you’re on of the few people who are using the database link future in Vectorworks. I’m starting to understand why, as it is so difficult to set up… In tried to create another DSN, to use the Ansi driver, etc. but without any different result : always the same error. Here is a screenshot of the mysql server version : 8.0.31-1.el8 I think I’m going to give up… if anyone manage to find how to set up this on a mac……
  3. OK, So I uninstalled MariaDB and phpmyadmin packages on my Synology. And I installed Dockers images of mysql and phpmyadmin. Connection with iODBC is OK. Acces with Sequel Ace is also OK. But within Vectorworks, I’ve still got this error Unkown database 'null'. Any Idea ? If I manage to make it, I promise, I will do a tutorial.
  4. Here are all the screenshots of the error using the mysql driver and mariaDB, the last one is shown when clicking on "Details…". I tried with the MariaDB ODBC Connector. I had to install Homebrew and openssl via Terminal commands also. But then, I get this error while making the test with iODBC : PS : I use MariaDB because it is available as a package on Synology DSM system, whereas it is not for MySQL.
  5. I’m not sure to understand what you mean… when I try to connect to the database, GRaMySQL is found. The error comes when I click on the OK button on the window in the screenshot below :
  6. Hi @Samuel Derenboim, Thanks for your feedback. Here are more informations : 1. I installed MariaDB and phpmyadmin on a Synology NAS 2. I create within phpmyadmin a user 'gaetan' an a database 'Vectorworks_DB' with all access. 3. Using iODBC Connector, I created a user DSN and manage to do the test 4. But within Vectorworks, when a do the connection, I’ve got the following error message : [1049] Driver error: S1000 [MySQL][ODBC 8.0(w) Driver]Unknown database 'null' I think I did something wrong within myphpadmin, but I don’t know what… In addition, I manage to connect and edit the database with a third party application like Sequel Ace. If you know what is happening, I would be really grateful.
  7. Did anybody managed to create an ODBC with MySQL on a mac ? At the step Database connection, The button "Built" is not available aside of "Use connection String" on the mac, as it is said within the vectorworks help.
  8. I confirm that there a difference between mac and PC at this point : the help says : But I managed to install the MySQL drivers on my mac…
  9. Hi Pat, I’ve got to look at closer this question of mysql. Thanks Pat. I’ll post an update to say whether it is the same on macOS or not.
  10. Hi, 1rst question : Do anybody manage to use the "link to database" via ODBC on a Mac ?. Is there any precise tutorial ? the help is not complete. 2nd question : Can the database be a Synology hosted mariaDB one ?
  11. On your screen capture, I can see that you’re on VW2020. I remember that there was a bug with Monterey about this topic which has been corrected for VW2022 but I’m not sure about VW2021 and even less VW2020…
  12. So, do we agree that the version with 4 outer drains around the edges should make a different result ? (without be stuck with 5% slope). If so I will report a bug…
  13. I meant the default slope can not be a negative value. This would help avoiding to adjust the valleys after placing the drains.
  14. Thanks @Tom W., and @Christiaan. That’s exactly what I want to get at the end. For me it is not really important to get drains around the permitter, because I use this tool only to create slopes inside the slabs. The valleys slopes are negative at the end. And the parameter box of drainage does not allows to put negative values… Is this tool made for such usage ? Maybe it is an improvement to make on it ?
  15. Hi, I have some difficulties with drainage on slab. I would like to create a 4 slopes slabs with the slope inside the insulation layer. — The lower drainage points are around the edges of the slab — (that’s the point…). I tried to use the drainage tool as I show on the screen capture below, in 3 steps, but the result is not satisfying because the slope is not adjustable and the 2D representation is wired. I would like to get the 4th drawing the right side, but with opposite slopes. Is there any solution ? (apart from drawing 4 separated slabs) @Matt Panzer Thanks in advance. VW-drainage.vwx
  16. Hi @Matt Panzer, Thanks for this short video. Definitely very useful explanation and tool.
  17. No, they are using SimpleBIM to merge the ifc files and precisely georeferencing them, and I think BimCollab to detect clashes. Thanks to all for your reactions and workaround solutions/propositions.
  18. Hi @Mihail Rizov, I’m glad to hear from you. Sure, I understand that it is not a usual case. My situation is the following : IFC project file is quite heavy and difficult to import with all element by the structure engineer. Moreover we have this request from the BIM manager to export a IFC file without any structural or MEP elements – he merges those 3 ifc files after – so there is no confusion of who did what. I try to model the structure (made of concrete and steel beams and columns) but it is really not easy to use the structural member tool for now (I made VBs). Moreover, modelling twice the structure (Arch.+Struc.En.) is useless… And finally, inside Vectorworks, if there is a window in a Wall, you can select directly. It is not a situation where the window is inside a group which is a wall and you have to enter into this group to select the window. So finally, in first approach, I think it is strange that hiding a wall hides the windows. That said, I understand the IFC structure, but if you say that is not impossible………… I hope to hear soon from you ! Kind regards, Gaëtan Redelsperger
  19. I’ve got to add that modelling a big steel structure (beams and columns) with vectorworks is not very easy, because the structural member tool is quite buggy… for now. Hope it will corrected soon.
  20. Theoretically possible. But discussions with engineers on BIM subjects are not always simple. Moreover, big ifc files are difficult to import by Revit (used by our consultant). That is one of the reason I try to export only architectural parts. That is what we are doing for now. I was just wondering : if viewers and checker can hide walls without hiding windows, maybe Vectorworks could do the same… And our BIM manager asked us to make an ifc with only architectural things, in order to merge structure / MEP / Archi and avoid any misunderstanding between the structure modelled by the consultant and the structure modelled by the architect if their is any difference.
  21. Thanks @eleppand @matteoluigifor those replies. @eleppIt is quite easy to hide specific ifc elements into ifc checker / viewers because if you hide ifcwall or ifcwallstandardcase, ifcwindows including in the walls are not hidden. > it would be nice if Vectorworks has the same behaviour ! @matteoluigi this method works, but it is not applicable on big projects, moreover for each time you want to exchange with the structure consultant.
  22. Hi Matt, that is interesting ! I would be grateful if you share it with me.
  23. Hi, I need to export my model with only the architectural elements in order that the BIM manager check if the structural model of the engineer and mine merges correctly, and I’ve got a problem : How to deal with symbols, doors and symbols inside walls ? If I hide the wall’s class, the windows (etc.) are hide also. Is there any other way to export only windows and doors correctly in the example attached ? (@Mihail Rizov and @AChekir) (please note that it is an example, in my model, I’ve got many many of them. So it is not possible to make each time opening in the wall and to put the window not in the wall…) Thanks ! VW-ifc export only windows.vwx
