  1. This topic is actually well covered in other posts on this board. A few months ago a fellow was trying to do the same with a 200 series HP plotter. Do a search on the boards and you should find all of the info you need on this including how to find your IP address and page setup. I am running three macs with a Linksys Etherfast Cable router and airport. Powerbook and G4 are OSX. They print fine using Gimp Print to my HP 455. I have the router set up as a DHCP so that it assigns IP addresses dynamically to the computers. I have been running this setup for many months without trouble. Your plotter is most likely supported by Gimp Print.
  2. I have noticed it in previous versions. I am on 10.2.3 and it happens.
  3. Dave; What is the file format and file size that should be used in the Photoshop export?
  4. Cloud; If you are trying to get two elevations on one sheet, I am told, (I have not tried this), that you can use the Model tool under VW10.
  5. Hi David; I would love to hear about your experience. Thanks in advance for your interest.
  6. Hi Katie; Thank you for understanding. Thank you for all of the great help that you offer on this BB. I hope that the rest of the users on this BB understand that you are only trying to help. I hope that these messages are getting passed up to the engineers and sales people. They need to hear our frustration, not you. Thanks again.
  7. Hi Hunter I know both you and I have been trying to resolve this annimation issue. I feel your pain. Here is what I have found to date. Maxon, (parent company of Vectorworks), has a program called Cinema. The base program is around $600. They and VW sell a plug-in that allows Cinema to work interactively with VW. I downloaded the free Cinema demo. The roadblock at the moment is that I have to buy the plug-in. I have not pursued this any further as I am annoyed at having to pay money to VW for a plug-in in order to try out a free demo of Cinema, all because my VW Renderworks does not work. Go to the Maxon website and you will see how this all works.I think the plug-in is called Vectorworks Special Edition. It appears that this may be a good solution. I am just so fed up with the whole situation that I have put the issue on the back-burner for now. Good luck
  8. Vehicle manufacturers post their data on the web. When I need dimensions, turning radius info I go to the web. I needed to know if a Ford Expedition would fit in a garage. I went to the Ford website and got height, width, length, etc.
  9. I have an HP 455CA, bought in 1998. The HP software is buggy. After much time with tech support I finally got it to run under OS9. From time to time it will corrupt and require trashing files, etc. There is no HP software for OS10. I am using Gimp Print and it works fine. It could be better and could be a lot faster. Printing under Gimp takes a long time. But for the price, (free), I cannot realy complain now can I?
  10. Try doing a search on this board. There is loads of information from past threads.
  11. You might try the batt insulation tool. You can manipulate the number of folds and the thickness. I assume you are speaking strickly of 2d and not 3d.
  12. I ran two test prints using a 24" x 18" image. It ran fine as expected as far as orientation. I chose "ArchC Transverse" as the paper size. For orientation I chose "Portrait" which is the first of the three graphics with radio buttons. As a second test I changed the orientation to "Landscape", the second radio button. It did not print properly, as I would have expected. My suggestion is to experiment. Hopefully you now know that what you want to do is possible. You just need to find the right combination of settings.
  13. Hi Katie; My page size is 36" wide and 24" high. Therefore I choose to print in landscape mode. It is the only way to print a sheet this size on a printer that has a 24" throat. What I have not tried yet is to print a 24" wide by 18" high page. In this case I would want to rotate the image so that final output is 24x18. Otherwise it would print 24x24. I will try to print a 24x18 image and see if there is a problem. I used to do this all the time using the HP RIP.
  14. As an added thought. Sometimes you have to reset the print area in Vectorworks. (Page>Set Print Area). After setting up page setup, I then use Set Print Area and drag the grey print box diagonally and then back. This resets the print area to the selected Page Setup size. Hope this helps. I just ran 30 24" x 36" sheets under VW9.5 with no problem.
  15. I am not sure I understand the problem. i am using OS10.2, and a 455CA. Under page setup you have a choice of printer, paper size, and three orientation buttons. By manipulation of these items you can get whatever rotation you wish. There seem to be more choices than I need, but I can get it to work. I did notice though that on my last plot, the paper cutter cut to the end of the image and not to the selected paper size. Kurt has experienced this as he has described in other posts. I suspect that there is a certain combination that yields difference between "paper saving mode" and full sheets. By the way, certain versions of Gimp Print have the Arch D size hidden under 24" x 36". This is the size I use and have no problems other than what I described.
  16. Hi Hunter; I was wondering if you tried Dave's suggestion and if it worked for you. I tried it and there was no improvement.
  17. My engineer sent me a shear wall schedule that is in Excel. It has text that wraps within cells. If I try to copy and paste this into a VW worksheet it is a mess and is unusable. Therefore I am forced to scan a hardcopy and paste the image into the VW file. Result: poor image quality and 9.5MB added to my already large 40MB file. 18. I seem to have found the answer to my question. However, NNA is there a better way to do this? If I delete the keynote reference from the plan and then place a new reference it takes on the attributes of the edited text. Then if I delete the gathered set of keynotes and regenerate that, I then end up with the properly edited text. Is there not a way for the keynote process to update automatically when I edit the keynote database?
  19. Hi Andy, Thanks for the info. That makes more sense. So that I am clear; will the base package do animation at all? Or are you saying that it does do animation but for more money I can produce animations that are better in some way?
  20. Do I understand correctly that in order to use the demo try-out of Cinema, I have to pay $50 for a plug in that I may never use again? The whole reason that I am on this topic to begin with, is that my Renderworks software does not work, (it freezes during animation). It would seem that I have "jumped out of the frying pan and right into the fire"! [ 03-28-2003, 04:51 PM: Message edited by: Kevin ]
  21. Reference has been made on this board that a VW plugin exists for Cinema 4d. On one thread it is referred to as "VW Special Edition". I have downloaded the Cinema 4d demo but cannot find this plugin. Can anyone offer help on this?
  22. Hi Andy; I took a look at the Cinema website. At $1,700, I would not consider this an inexpensive software. Am I missing something when you say that it is "very inexpensive"? I did notice that you can blow up your model using the "explosion gizmo". Right now that would come in handy as every time my Renderworks model freezes I would certainly like to blow it up.
  23. 1) Is VW/RW ver 10 faster using Mac OS 8.6 than it is in Mac OS X? I use VW/RW 9.5.3. Under OS9.2 it runs faster than under OS10.2. I made the switch to OSX and love it except that I pay a speed penalty when using VW. 2) Will the new Powerbook G4 run OS 9.2 or lower? I have a 15" 1Ghz powerbook. It will boot under OS9.2 or under OS10.2 or will boot up the Classic mode under OS10.2. Don't know why you would want to run OS8.
  24. Thanks Andy, I will take a look.
  25. Hi Dave; I have tried your suggestion and it appears to be no better and perhaps worse. I have done two annimations and both froze. The first froze at 16 frames and the second froze at 86 frames. They are orbit point animations using final renderworks. On each model layer, (first floor, second floor, roof), I followed your instructions and converted the symbols to a group. The animation is run on a model layer that is composed of the other layers through layer links. Any suggestions?
