  1. I think this is probably a workspace migration issue, hopefully JimW will descend with his halo and help out soon!
  2. interesting I've attached a file with a screen inserted from the menu command and one from the tool palette for reference screen tool.vwx
  3. in VW2017 the 'insert screen' from the Event Design drop down no longer seems to work. It will insert the symbol for the selected screen but it does not appear as a screen object so cannot be edited as such. The command does work if you use the screen object tool from the Spotlight tool palette.
  4. It would be great to have the option of a hoist type 'Drop Wire' or 'Dead Hang' in the hoist tools of spotlight, it's a major part of rigging especially in the exhibition industry
  5. couldn't find a bug submission area so here's my problem When changing the layer of an Audio Tools speaker array the program crashes Windows 10 64Bit
  6. You'll find C4D will render video content much quicker if you use an image sequence rather than a video file, most video editors will spit out an image sequence and C4D will automatically see a sequence if you select the first frame image in a folder on the texture. Plenty of tutorials available online.
  7. Thanks I have an answer as to the cause: 'The Vectorworks 2016 Windows OBJ importer, does not support spaces in the filename for the images.' 'They think this is something they might be modifying in Vectorworks 2017, so it will no longer necessary in future versions.' I'll definitely explore the CC option
  8. Hi Jim. Thanks for your reply. I've got VSS support working on this in the UK, I'd not want to step on their toes, I'm dealing with Risha Parmar (3dsupport@unlimited.com) I'll also send you the files Thanks Mike
  9. So after a bit of digging I've established that the problem is vectorworks will not import the JPG that is associated with the male models in the file. When I attempt to replace the image in the texture, I get the following error: 'Unable to create a graphics importer for the file. The system may not have an importer installed or memory may be low.' It's not memory related so I tried opening the JPG in photoshop (CC) and saving a copy as a re-encoded file and it now works. I'm not sure why this would happen? According to the file's properties it was created in photoshop CS6 whereas the JPGs for the female characters were created in CC. Does this mean I will have to re-encode all the textures for these OBJ models or is there a VW workaround? At least we know VW isn't sexist now though.
  10. you have no idea how difficult it is to find models of women who are not either naked or a bit sexy! I just want a boring HR manager in a suit!
  11. Hi I've just installed SP4 on my PC and have encountered a problem. When i open a file including some imported OBJ human figures the mapping does not work on the PC, the same file when opened on my mac (but running SP3) is fine (see attached image). Both files are opened from the same dropbox so are identical. Unfortunately without un-installing VW altogether and reverting to SP3 I am unable to say whether this is an OS problom or a service pack issue. When I try to directly import the original OBJ files on the PC I get an error message saying the jpeg cannot be imported. The geometry is imported fine. Help!
  12. Hi Jim Thanks for your reply. Disabling planar objects did the trick. I've attached the offending symbol, I'm guessing it is the text that causes the problem. As this has no relevance in my rendered work, would it be best to assign these to a different class and disable it for renderworks viewports?
  13. I've come across this one before and can't remember if i managed to rectify it. I've attached a test render. The vwx is too big to add. The grey patch in the middle at the bottom is not something i've added on purpose. The white panels are a symbol that occur elsewhere and have rendered correctly. Renderworks Realistic interior final, 144dpi, 3 bounces Any ideas? Thanks Mike
  14. Thanks Jim It would be good to know if something is in the pipeline before I put my hand in my wallett
  15. Thanks I understand the mutual exclusivity between 'good' and 'free' :-) It's somewhat annoying though that vectorworks has effectively removed the extremely useful human figure tool without offering an alternative
  16. I am having the same problem as posted previously on the forum. Does anybody have a good (free) repository of 3D human figures they can recommend?
  17. I'm generally a bit disorganised but try to use something along the lines of: [sHOW NAME] [sUB SHOW] [DEPARTMENT] V[VERSION MUMBER]. [REVISION NUMBER] [PLOT SIZE] [sCALE] So it Might be 'Alitalia Reveal Main Room LX V3.1 A1 1_100' for rendering i tend to use a camera name ie 'CAM REAR Stage Left' I also tend to keep past versions in a 'bin' folder within the project folder otherwise i get myself in a real mess of course the more frequent and ridiculous the client's requests get the less organised I become.
  18. my people have taken on a rather disturbing ghostly appearance since V2016 When I render they appear grey apart from their hands Is this a bug or some fancy new halloween themed feature?
  19. Just had this ping up when trying to add a renderworks camera. I've tried restarting vectorworks and copying all the content into a new file but the same message appears. Any ideas? VW2016
  20. looking good so far except....... Create seating tool in spotlight seems to ignore 'focus at next click' and default back to focus automatically. not a major issue
  21. As far as I know this is not possible for projection screens. I generally just create a 'screen surface' as an extrusion then apply the screen image as a mapped texture. For larger blended curves I have just created a projection screen per blend and centred the screen on a tangent at the correct point on the curve to give me the correct projector position for rigging. Couple of images attached form the construction phase of a job I'd love to be proved wrong though.....
  22. great thanks mk Took a while but i got there in the end, only seemed to work if the direction of each rail was Z+ thanks for you help
  23. I'm looking for a way to create drapes a bit like those here http://i00.i.aliimg.com/wsphoto/v1/864104482_1/Free-shippinge-home-decoration-bling-font-b-curtain-b-font-band-rhinestone-font-b-ribbon-b.jpg I'm not bothered about the ties themselves, just want to create some slightly more complex drapes than those available in the soft goods tool. I found a guide on how to make italian drapes on here from 2010 but sadly the video tutorial has disappeared from the link https://techboard.vectorworks.net/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=148597
  24. sorted it was missing the record info section of the OIP, it was minimised phew!
