  1. In our office when we do record issues we like to save a static copy of the vectorworks files at that time. It would be great if in the publish command, you could not only print, pdf, and dwg export, but export VW file (either current year or previous year) as well. Also, the multi-file publish does not seem to work. The generated list is all messed up. It would be nice if you could *tag* sheet layers in files to be used in batch multi-file prints and exports - so when the list is generated - it does not pull up every garbage layer - but only the indicated important sheet layers.
  2. Sorry - I am in 2014. I have not changed my signature. It is not a scale issue. Zooming in does not fix it. It still reports correctly - so it hasn't actually reverted - it just appears solid. Closing and reopening does not fix issue. After playing around - some line types work - it is only dashes that do not. I know this sounds like a scale issue, but it is not. 3. It is showing up in several files now. Occasionally, a line or polygon with an assigned line type will suddenly appear solid. No amount of fiddling will get it to display correctly. It seems to be an object by object thing, for lines around it do not seem to be affected.
  4. No major improvements for stairs. Just 3 stringers. The stair they showed in the promo video seems almost impossible to create with the stair tool. Would love to inspect the a sample file. Stair tool needs a complete rebuild. It is one of my least favorite things about VW. Windoor is no longer selling new licences. I could not get it if I wanted.
  5. It is just a point light. Not sure what is going on. I will send the file. Thanks.
  6. Something I just ran into: I have my light objects set to only appear in wireframe, so when I am in open GL they do not appear. When I use the B key and go into xray mode they do appear as expected, but you can not select them. Would be great if you could!.
  7. Upgrade installation was fast. I used it all day today. It did not crash once. WAY better experience so far compared to 2013.
  8. Obviously it would not be simple. But your workflow is exactly my point. Both your conceptual work, 2D drawing, and your BIM model should happen (could happen) in the same program. I just feel like there are some synergistic opportunities that are not being realized.
  9. What is the reason that Nemetschek is keeping AllPlan and Vectorworks and Graphisoft all separate. It seems crazy to be developing 3 programs with so much overlap. They need to combine the best features of these different platforms into one cohesive product and concentrate their development dollars.
  10. It would be nice there was a centralized project resource management tool. This way, line styles, classes, symbols, textures, tile blocks etc. could be edited project wide rather than document by document. We have created our own version of this by having a Globals file that houses this information that then gets referenced into all the project files. This works, but referencing causes problems and it is clunky. A baked in way for vectorworks to understand the idea of a project composed of multiple VW files and manage the resources across the entire project.
  11. It would be great if VW could manage sets of drawings. I hate when I have to add a page to my set, I then need to re-number all the pages in the series that come after it, then when things get condensed, and I need to remove a page, I need to renumber everything again. I do not like having "This page intentionally left blank" pages in my set. It would be great if there was a set manager, that would renumber everything and create a text record that you link to your title block, that would automatically rename all the drawings in a series. This would be great if it could be project wide (multiple documents) but even document wide would be great. If it could then auto-generate the drawing list too!
  12. It would be great if you could manage your plumbing and gas fixtures and risers. It could be somehow linked to your stories. VW would no how many fixtures and of what type are where. It would now if they are new, moved, or existing, and auto generate a riser diagram. 2015?
  13. I was told too by a rep that they have been working on 64bit. My source stated in no uncertain terms that it was VW's dependence on QuickTime that was holding things up. He thought they would be able to release a 64bit version in 2015 - along with some other major workflow / referencing improvements. This was over a year ago, so I do not know if the timeline is still current.
  14. Similar to holding down the 'B' key now.
  15. Stairs with a 3rd stringer!!! Wishlist addressed! I am going to laugh and cry at the same time if that is touted as one of the 'new features' in VW14.
  16. It is a pipe dream for sure, but at a certain point, you have wonder how long these can go on like this. There might simply be a cash flow / staffing problem, but if they do not make a serious investment in the future, they are in trouble. It not too early to starting thinking about moon-shots.
  17. No it is a big deal. It is true that there are a lot of sectors that may not benefit directly from 64bit architecture, but CAD/Modeling software is definitely one that does. I am not sure why you are hitting a 2.5GB ceiling, it maybe because the other 1GB (32bit can actually only access a little more than 3.5GBs) is being used elsewhere on the computer and so what VW is asking it to do pushes it over the edge. The more processes VW can run at once combined with the more information it can hold in rapid access, the better the performance will be. It will also allow the creation of complex tools and operations that require more memory to run correctly.
  18. They should take 24 months off. Tell everybody there is not going to be a 2015 release + hire some good talent. Combine ArchiCad, Vectorworks, AllPlan, and C4D into one cohesive super product to be released in 2016. Ground up 64 Bit rebuild.
  19. I spoke to somebody at NNA the other day and he told me to expect 'leaks' very soon. The leaks did them no favors last year. The leaked features were so tame that everybody expected that they were waiting for the official release to tell us about the really cool stuff. When that did not come to pass, I was disappointed and annoyed. Bim is blowing up. Drawings + models are getting bigger and more complex. 64 Bit is a must have. You can feel it. There are a lot of long time VW users on the brink. If they don't bring their A-Game this year and next year, a significant portion of their base is going to abandon the product.
  20. I do not think VW has a strong beta program. Each release remains unstable until about SP2. I have realized that they rely on crash reports to fix up the software and the best way to get them is to simply pretend the software is ready and release it to the public. I am excited for the new release (as I always am) but I am not going to upgrade the firm until after the 1st or 2nd SP is released. We had so much trouble with VW13 - we have learned the lesson. If their is not a major overhaul in the next 3 years, I can not see sticking with it. The industry is moving faster than they are, and time is running out if they are going to catch up. I was told by an insider that we should expect some major revisions in 14 + 15 - including a new way of referencing that will allow multiple people to edit the same model at the same time. If this turns out to be true - it would indicate right headed thinking about the capabilities needed to turn VW into a prober modern BIM ready software.
  21. This would be fantastic. It would legitimize VW add-ons and I think encourage more 3rd party solutions. It could even be a place that Vectorworks could sell or test add on features. It could release beta features and receive feedback from people willing to try them out before being integrated into a release. It could allow for a more staggered and faster feature release schedule.
  22. It has nothing to do with how much RAM you have, but rather how much RAM VW can adress. You can have 128GBs of RAM, but it will not matter since VW can only currently utilize 2.5GBs - or there abouts. My understanding is that VWs is somehow fundamentally built on top of Quicktime which is a 32bit program and always will be. I have been told by an inside source that decoupling VWs from Quicktime and launching a 64Bit program is a top priority but has proven difficult. Probably somewhere in your file is some memory hogging bug / corruption that is burring through the 2.5GB. This problem drives me nuts. Keep your fingers crossed for 2014.
  23. I was excited when I saw that. It brings them in as symbols with embedded Design Layer View ports that referenced the full material, so I was still unable to extract the information. Frustrating! Ill keep at it and keep you posted.
  24. VW teased this feature a couple years ago, and then nothing came of it. I have been waiting. If I remember correctly it was billed as a thermal renderer.
