  1. Good Day, I haven't had time to dig to the very bottom of this problem so if there is an obvious reason I apologize in advance. I have a couple of people working on presentation drawings and there are the requisite imported images for logos. The actual files are relatively simple, 0 ht walls, 2d elevations and the like. One of them complained to me that the file was feeling slow, so I investigated and the one set of files was 25 megs for EACH drawing, and the other I believe it was 15 megs apiece. I know there have been many posts on the size of VW 9 files, but this is where this story takes a strange twist. If I open one of these 25 meg files, (I am verifying in "About VectorWorks" the 25,xxx K files size)delete the imported images from the file, Save, go back to "About VW" it reports the file size to be 3,xxx K. Verify in the finder the file size. Back in VW simply hit Undo/Cmd-Z what ever, choose save again and file size does NOT change. Not in About VW or in the finder. Huh? VW 9.5.3 OS 10.1.5 and 10.2.1 G4s thanks
  2. I had a similar problem in a VW9 file that had been updated as soon as 9 came out from 8. I found that simply opening the editing space for the symbols and closing them cleared up the gaps.
  3. Mike see my post on your referenced thread
  4. Hi Mike, I posted about this somewhere too, the only difference is that it surfaced under 10.2.1. We have one Quicksilver that is exhibiting that problem. All apps other than VW 9.5.3 can print fine, but the first print to print center hangs for a while, then disappears without going anywhere. All subsequent prints don't even make it to the print center. We have one G45 at 10.2.2 can print from all flavors of VW 8.5.2 to 10.0 and then three G4s at 10.2.1 all at 9.5.3 printing fine, even three at 10.1.5. The misbehaving machine has been demoted to be an OS 9 machine for the short term, my plan is to check a couple of things after doing some research, swap out RAM chips, and repair permissions. After that I will probably wipe the drive and start over...
  5. Ok because this has been in several different files, there isn't consistency entirely. The Version 9 files have happened twice. Once on a Quicksilver 733/1 GB RAM running Mac OS 9.2.2 VWA 9.5.2 printing to a HP DesignJet 800PS on a file created whole cloth in VWA9. The second file was printed on both an HP 4050 and a 5000. It was a VW 8.x file upgraded to VWA9.5.3 printed from a Cube 1Ghz/512MB running OS 10.2.1. in both cases the enable hi rez printing was checked and was at the "recommended" setting. HTH
  6. Why, is it that arcs sometimes have very long lines appear when you print them. These arcs appear normally on screen, it only shows up when you print it. The only fix is to delete the arc and then replace it. This has happened off and on since version 8 of both Mac OS and VW. It has popped up in VW9 and OS9 and 10.x it isn't common, and is only a real problem when one has many copies of these arcs in one file. any insight would be appreciated. no this isn't common to one file, one user, one computer or one printer

    thank you

Hi Raymond, I guess I wasn't clear enough. The reason that I am so excited by this is that I am an avid user of option drag. Here is an example to show what I mean. Open a doc in VW9 and insert a door or window into a wall. Now with the cursor one can position within the wall, and one can drag it out of the wall, right? Start with the object inserted into the wall, and here's where it gets good. Hold down the option key and drag the door or window out of the wall. and instead of duplicating the PIO, it just drags the PIO out of the wall and then you are free to option drag it to make your copy and then either copy, and then undo, paste the copy and place it or what ever method you prefer. Now in VW10 do the exact same steps, it is different in that if you option drag the door or window out of the wall you get a copy of the PIO AND your original stays in place! A HUGE improvement.
  8. I just accidently discovered another improvement in VW10. I just option-dragged a door out of a wall and it made a duplicate! Yahoo! I know that in VW9 there were plugins for cloning existing PIOs or setting PIO Defaults, but much more straight forward to pull a copy of the one you want a copy of. thanks again.
  9. This isn't a help I know, but I have one 10.2.1 machine that will not print from Vectorworks 9.5.x. We don't see the issues you are having with text and the like (with the exception on printing a portion of the page where the print border crosses a text block, but that goes away once you move the print border back) I have four other 10.2.1 machines printing fine/3 10.1.5 Machines printing fine. I am going to probably wipe that drive and then reinstall to see what happens.
  10. I think the point that most people make is a valid one. If you can't afford to lose time, don't us the latest hardware, the latest system, and the latest hardware. JNR I am sorry you lost $10k. There is no reason for it. But judging from your membership # you have been a user since before 8. If 9.0 wasn't working for you, why didn't you downgrade? I had an office I was in charge of do exactly that. We tried 9.0 because it looked great, it wasn't working after a couple of weeks, we stopped, went back to 8, where the office stayed until 9.5 came out. Life has been good. You might say well IONW I paid good money for the upgrade, but that is paltry in comparison to what you claim to have lost in billable time. (I am NOT questioning if you lost this or not) I am using VWA 10 and Jaguar and loving it. is my office? no. I am a geek from way back, I studied computer engineering, I ran a computer consulting business for 5 years before I found the god of Architecture. When stuff happens I generally know when to panic or not, and have many options. I may not understand why a line disappears, but I have options, and then I ask the tech people @ NNA.
  11. Here's my two cents. 1. 9.0 caused many problems with many users...but not all. we heard from the worst case scenarios, and yes there were some nasty situations. But like a set of architectural plans that a contractor or owner finds issues on they will continue to dig and pick until you feel like you've been through the wringer?users treated 9.0 release similarly. I used it from the 9.0 release, and I admit I am a technophile so when computers start doing wacky things I generally know where to go, but I was ecstatic over the new tools. Was I able to work faster? yes. were there crashes? Yes...did I save? yes! Did I have nightly backups? yes. I welcomed the .0 release, do I recommend it for others? a resounding No! this leads to point 2. I am testing VWA10 for our office. I haven't had more than two issues with this program, it is light years beyond where the 9.0 release was in terms of stability and maturation. Am I working faster...Yes! do I still save early and often? yes. Do I still do backups? yes. Have I needed them yet? No. most of the situations I saw, were aggravated by not using backups properly...if at all. As far as the doom and gloom of VW 10.o shaping up to be as bad as VW 9.0 B******T! If you were able to search the boards by time you'd see the difference. 10 is stable on my system, it is fast, it likes my network, the new features like self healing walls, and cleaner hidden line drawing take hours out of my week. Nothing is perfect, in no way am I offering NNA a get out of jail free card, they have pissed me off too, but this thread is not getting anywhere. in following with Matt's comment on a 90 day test drive...Try telling your Toyota dealer you only want to pay for the improvements since your last model. True you get trade in value, but the difference is easily on par with NNA's upgrade prices. Hey Matt it is great to know you still peruse the old boards...Hi.
  12. Hello Well I have reached my first issue with VWA10. I have a site base imported from ACAD into 9 say 6 months ago. Used it to put out 20 or thirty lots over that time. in VWA 9 (.0.1 to .5.2b2) No issues. I am testing 10 for the office and since this is a little project it was a good one to test with. My only issue is parts of my street disappear when I print. These are in the same class, same type, same layer as the item next to them, they display on-screen, they are editable etc but do not show up in prints or PDFs. Take that exact file, export it to v9 and it prints fine. Mac OSX 10.2.1 "Quicksilver" 733 G4/1 GB RAM HP LJ 5000N and DesignJet 800PS Any ideas?
  13. That is exactly it. In VW 8.x vw 9.0.x one could put a different attribute to the door than the wall. 9.5.x seems to have broken this ability. 10 has fixed it and more. Now instead of having to choose a relative line weight you can also set them directly. Oh yeah NNA could you please let me set that in units other than mils?
  14. Hi rl, Actually the script is locked, the parameters are not. That is where Katie is talking about. So if you go create plugin, select your copied PIO, there are four buttons below the list, Script; Properties; Parameters; & Insert Options. Click on Parameters and you will see all the items you can edit in the Palettes. Simply change the default value from what it is to what it needs to be. Next time you use it...Voila it will be correct. I will add to Katie's warning about the copy, this seems completely harmless, but I toasted my complex window doing this...well this AND moving the order of options so that the ones I used were on top... HTH
  15. I've received my update and can attest to the fact that it indeed does work better. Also Hidden Line is a much faster renderer than 9.x.x
  16. Katie, I think what was meant is this. If you turn full screen cursor on, you get both the "crosshairs" of the full screen cursor and a normal "arrow" cursor leading the crosshairs along. I think what is being requested is that one only sees the crosshairs w/o the "normal" cursor.
  17. Thanks Katie, I think I'll take a pass! I kind of figured that might be the case. Maybe I will have to spring for the hatchmaker software on Vector Depot...
  18. Good day, I have used with great joy a spanish tile hatch I found on Vector Depot. My only beef is that the author used a heavier lineweight than I would like. I know there is a lineweight option in the hatch palette, but there are 452 layers in the hatch. I want to hit say a .1 lnwt and click a same lnwt button similar to the same colors button. any ideas out there? Usually I toss the hatch on another layer and use layer colors to mute it.
  19. Thanks. To be honest it was a new one on me too. I was sitting reading the post and thought hmmm I wonder... whoa....it works!
  20. Alternatively simply select the lines that make up your areas, even if that defines multiple "islands" then under the Tool Menu select hatch. Click inside your island and drag in the direction you want the hatch to propagate. If you have multiple areas defined hit them all while it is selected. HTH Mac OS X.2.1 VWA 9.5.3b2
  21. So far I am in love with 10. But it's only been one day... Anyway here are my couple of things thus far: 1. Please bring back the auto fillin for font name in the Format Text Dialog box. that is I used to typ h-e-a and I would get feedback that I was going to get HeavyHand, now I have to have faith... 8) 2. Please let me set the lineweights for doors etc in units other than mils. I will have to quell a riot at the office if they have to convert from mm's (mmmm candy!) otherwise: great job on the resource browser, it is taking some getting used to, but it seems like it will be entirely worth it. I REALLY like the new info pallete for doors and windows Thanks for bringing back the ability to dash doors and windows. thanks for the ability to print from worksheets ah well, more later, work calls. thanks for the great work.
  22. if you haven't already tried this, restart at least VW if not the whole machine. After i read your post I tried importing a file I had imported successfully in recent past (into 9.5.3b2 on 10.2.1), and it failed rather spectacularly, to the point where my only option was a force quit. (a endless loop requesting permission to update a preferences file from 8 to 9, then telling me that it was already 9 occasionally a window would come up reporting a problem including the some path/window.vss I force quit VW, went out to a meeting, upon my return fired up VW and imported the file without any problems. I have noticed that 9.5.3.b2 gets a little buggy as time passes, so am slowly getting myself in the habit of being ergonomic and quitting, restarting and taking a break every so often. I mentioned before where the escape key stops working, well it seems to happen after about an hour or so on my G4 10.2.1
  23. no no no, I will fight to keep you Matt. you have helped me out of way too many jambs, Katie too. regardless of some of the comments on the boards, you guys are some of the most helpful tech support people I have talked to. other than getting dropped off into hold hinterland a couple of weeks ago, you all have been responsive, quick and helpful.
  24. Good day, I don't know if it the patch or Jaguar but I am greatly relieved to have the recent documents menu working again with Network drives. I've missed that for as long as VW 9.0.1 has worked on OS X. The odd thing I have noticed is that keystrokes will randomly stop working. a moment ago escape stopped killing drawing processes, though Delete worked as it was supposed to. I restarted the computer and all is well. I can't nail anything else down concretely, but i have seen this with other keystrokes as well, though not one I use as much as esc. not a big deal, really, just curious. and BTW thanks to the tech support and engineer staff for working so hard on regaining compatibility in Jaguar.
  25. No problems here. 16 stations 9.5.1 to 9.5.3b1 os 9.2.2 to 10.2. 7 B&W G3s, 1 yikes g4, 4 "sawtooth" 2 digital audio two Quicksilvers and one cube
