Hi all I was wondering if anyone knows if its possible to assign a default font size to a plant tag? Mine seems to default to 14 which is too large for most of my work. I know that I can change this after the fact but it would be nice to have a default setting. Ow and while its on my mind I would love to see a shorter route to the units settings.... Thanks for the input in advance.

Kizza...that was a fascinating thread thanks... Benson had a great idea which I was going to try but did not need to. Peter thanks for your idea... I realized that I made a mistake in the earlier attempts to simply the 3d poly. During the initial attempts I did not select an alternative layer to place the revised contours on... they ended up on the same layer and when I reselected the new and old contours to create the model the situation was worsened... I separated them in the last attempt and it worked well. Thanks all.

Hi Kizza You can see where the issues lie in the attached image. The highlighted 3d polygon has over 13,000 vertices... others are similar so what now. Trace over and start again? Or perhaps I could duplicate the original survey contour lines and covert to 3d loci instead. Would that use less resources?

Hello I have a some three d contours which I have taken from a dwg survey file. The file had 2d poly lines and polygons which I converted to 3d polygons and assigned and elevation to. I simplified the 3d polygons but they still appears to have way to many vertices. Any ideas... the file for this image which only contains the 3d polgon contours is 11.5 mb.... what is that all about? Anyways these contours will not create a site model, it stalls very time regardless of settings. I'm at a lose as how I can simply this further??? One note is I took the original file, highlighted all the contour lines and used duplicate then pasted it onto a new class so I did not mess with the original.

After a bit more investigation it looks like this might be a bug specific to the file... not sure why? I'm open to ideas....This drawing is in the final stages and I'm hoping to complete without too many additional challenges. PS after a bit more sleuthing it appears that this strange behavior only occurs in rotated plan view and works fine in top/plan?

Just starting to place plants on a file which is exhibiting some strange behavior. I place two groups of plants that are the same, go to change the plant grouping and after selecting okay in the dialogue box the plants and tags disappear and I'm left with a polygon which is higlighted in one of the images I've attached. I know that I can easily work around this but it should not be doing this none the less.

This issue is a bit of a pain. Place multiple plants with the plant massing setting clicked. If the plant you select has a any gradient colour it shows in the group. Any fixes to this other than changing the symbol all together?

I might suggest you update your signature to include your computer specifics.... I use both preview and Adobe Acrobat Pro which is a bit better when it comes to inserting, deleting pages or reducing file size.

HI Sky We purchased a refurbished Mac Pro earlier in the year and noticed a huge difference in performance. Very robust, and seems to be able to render all day if needed. Very happy with it, not sure about the new version, I prefer the larger case that allows for easy upgrades. New hard drive in less than 5 min. All cores are used when renderworks is used, but not during other operations. I've read that our six core unit hits a sweet spot between price and performance.

Same issue here on occasion...I've been lucky for the most part in avoiding most of the issues described in this forum. I'm on the service select plan and I'm thinking that when the next release occurs I will wait until sp2 or greater before I start to work with it. Overall I'm very happy with my experience using VW since the VW 10 days...It just seems odd that a new release can take several months to get sorted out.

I re-installed VW 2014 the other day via the service select website. After you log in, go to downloads and all available versions are displayed (for me I see 2011 up to 2014) and seem to have updated sp. I downloaded 2014 again and it had sp2 as part of the download.

Thank you all and thanks Benson for that. Yes it seems like such a simple thing, (applying canvas to a structure) which turns out to be rather onerous. The file looks great and I appreciate all the help. This is an amazing forum with many talented and willing participants. Jamie

I got it to work Bryan.. here it is.

Trying to export a worksheet from VW Landmark 2014. Crashes every time, but does allow me to import...I don't recall ever having to export a worksheet up to today but it would be nice if it worked. It is a very simple plant list which has two cells that are not displaying Latin names of the listed plant. Not sure if this maybe part of the challenge. Update: sorry I did not export correctly, you need to not only highlight the worksheet but open it prior to export...http://serviceselect.vectorworks.net/training/tips-tricks#feb9666faaa82f66f358ebcfb7fb1720 all good now...except for the misbehaving cells

Thanks Bryan that is very kind of you. I have been pretty lucky with VW 2014 and up to now I have not had the instability and issues some people have described on this forum. That has ended in part due to VW crashing on 'Export worksheet" command, I have tried a few work arounds but to no avail... so until this can happen I can't send this along Bryan...

Thanks Monadnoc I found this in my travels and it did help me to this point-see attached. The tricky part seems to be not only the number of vertices you create but the edit mode you select. Not perfect but moving forward. ps I left the canvas top highlighted to help point out the dip created...

Hi I'm sure this is an easy task for a few of you. I have a landscape structure which I'm going to place some canvas on as a temp. roof during the summer months. Having this bow in the middle slightly would be a nice touch.. so any tips on what I should do beyond making a 3d polygon? Thanks very much in advance.

I'm having a challenge with a new plant list. I usually use and excel spreadsheet but this time around I'm determined to use a plant list. Plants which are included in a landscape area are listed within the list with quantity and common name but the latin name, this is removed. The definition shows it but it will not show on the list? Just uploaded SP2
