JLenkey
I'm trying to figure out if there is a way to align to a specific object without that object moving? For example centering out a 2x4 along a floor without dragging it to the center mark of said floor but using the align dialog to move the 2x4 to the center without the floor moving too. Just wondering if there is way to do that You can do it in other programs like Illustrator by double clicking the item you want to center to. Thanks Quote Link to comment
Popular Post michaelk
Depending on which version of VW you are using, there are two ways. Option A: Select the objects to be aligned or distributed. Right click on the object you don't want to move Choose Align/Distribute If you only need a simple operation you can pick from one of the choices and you're done. If you need something more complicated choose the bottom option - Align/Distribute… Now you are at the normal Align/Distribute dialog box, but it will honor the imovablilty of the object you right clicked on. Option B: If you don't see Align/Distribute in the right click menu you can do the same way our ancestors did. Place a 2D locus. Select the 2D locus and all the objects you want to align. Modify > Align > Align/Distribute… continue as normal If you have exactly one 2D locus in the collection of selected objects it will treat the 2D locus as immovable. 5 Quote Link to comment

Pat Stanford
Another option is to Lock the object you don't want to move. Lock and Unlock are in the Modify menu of the stock workspaces. 2 Quote Link to comment
