FRED JOHNSON
I am trying to model a simple mansard around the perimeter of a 50' x 100' building with a flat roof and can't seem to get it using the polygon to roof tool. does anyone know a simple way to do this? Quote Link to comment
Art V
The following two links may give you some ideas: https://forum.vectorworks.net/index.php?/topic/68263-slope-wall-or-incline-wall/&tab=comments#comment-337423 https://forum.vectorworks.net/index.php?/topic/53275-how-to-model-mansard-roof-and-walls-in-vectorworks/&tab=comments#comment-268869 Doing a search for Mansard will give you more posts about this. FRED JOHNSON
Art, I searched the forum for "mansard " and the best method was given by Matt Panzer to create a roof object then overlay a rectangle, select both and use "Clip Surface" from the modify menu. This returns a message that objects are not compatible. Perhaps this method does not work on my older version (architect 2010) Still searching.. Quote Link to comment
Art V
Did you try converting the roof to a generic solid and then clip? You will end up with a generic solid object instead of a roof object but this may not be an issue if the main purpose is visualization. Quote Link to comment
FRED JOHNSON
Art, No, I'll try that, but how do I convert the roof object into a solid? Quote Link to comment
Art V
Modify>Convert>Convert to generic solids is the menu option you could try. I don't seem to have a roof object (using Landmark) so can't test it on that one. It may be that the object is not supported for conversion to generic solid but at least you could try to see if it works. If it does then it might be an option to get what you are looking for. Tom W.
Or you could try drawing an Extrude to represent the material you want to remove then use the Subtract Solids... command. In VW2020 this has the effect of converting a Roof object into a Solid Subtraction Quote Link to comment
