jnr
Is anyone else having problems with referencing layers in 9.5 on a pc? I've started a new file of a measured drawing of a house using the wall tool, windows and doors. Nothing out of the ordinary. I get a runtime error in vectorworks. win 98 256mb ram. ErichR
No problem similar to yours but a couple of other frustrating things happening, one of which is: The new drawing, which references a couple of other files, is at a different scale. Sometimes text notes, generated by VW with leaders and arrows, seem not to recognize the new scale (but sometimes they do) Quote Link to comment
mike46
have not had that problem yet but I do ocasionaly get run time errors when using the texture mapping button in the obj info palette win xp va9.5 512mb ram Quote Link to comment
Guest
Are you guys getting numbered errors along with the Run Time errors you are receiving? Or are you just getting C++ Run Time error, program has performmed an illegal operation and will be shut down .. so forth and so on What OS are you on? Quote Link to comment
ErichR
We want to use referencing to create a half size set of drawings (11x17 sheet vs 24x36). Seems like a logical use of referencing -- NOT.1) If worksheets are referenced, their new locations can't be predicted or set.2) If the Detail Cut Wood tool is used and Show Size is picked, the resulting text sizes can't be predicted if the scale is changed.3) If different scales are used in the master drawing, their resulting locations will not be where they were in the master drawing. These and other problems could be avoided if each layer could be repositioned in the new file without unlocking the layer. This would be analogous to layer linking within a drawing where the resulting layer(s) can be moved after unlocking, while still preserving the updating function. Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Robert Anderson Posted February 7, 2002 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted February 7, 2002 ErichR, I agree -- this does NOT sound like a job for workgroup referencing. If you're going to do a half-sized set, why use WGR? Why not simply use the Scaling field in the Print Setup dialog and change your sheet size accordingly in the Drawing Size dialog? This takes _maybe_ 30 seconds to do. Far easier than setting up WGR to do this, which seems to me to be using an elephant gun for a mosquito. Quote Link to comment
ErichR
Robert, thank you. You've pointed out the obvious that I missed. But, it would still be useful to be able to move and to scale a referenced drawing, a la x-refing in AutoCad. Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Robert Anderson Posted February 8, 2002 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted February 8, 2002 ErichR, when referencing layers with page scale objects (e.g. text and worksheet images) try this: reference the layer at the same scale as in the master document, and if you want to change the scale, make a 2D layer link in the target document of your referenced layer. See if that works. Quote Link to comment
acepernich
Here's a technique that works for me to reference worksheets. Build your worksheet in your source file, show it on a layer - any layer, select the visible worksheet image, and creat a symbol of it. You can then selsct the box to not show it if you want. In your target file (which references your source file), import the symbol. It brings its worksheet along with it. You can then show it on any layer, just like any other worksheet. Whenever you update the target file's references ( by opening it or manually) you will be asked if you want to replace the worksheet; do it. This updates it from the source file.
