VvierA
Hello there, we use the Spotlight version that does not have the 'generate site' tool. But very seldom - from time to time - we need to model a site. Can anybody tell me how to do this with the generic 3d model tools? Thank you VvierA Quote Link to comment

Hans-Olav
Hi If you have the contour lines you could probably do multiple extrude command. If the landscape is complicated you might need to do several parts Quote Link to comment
Benson Shaw
If you know some things about the site, then the 3d tools offer some possibilities. For instance, if you know the contours: • You might be able to trace them as NURBS curves, raise them to their various z values and loft them in no rail mode, either in pairs or all in one go by clicking in sequence. That might be tricky if the site is full of hill tops and valleys. Using the Ruled option might be beneficial, or at least worth a try. • Trace to create 2d closed shapes between pairs of contours. Extrude each of the closed shapes to z value of higher of the pair. Smooth this if needed by applying a Drape Surface over the extrusions. Ah, I see @Hans-Olav just now posted a similar idea with the multiple extrude. Excellent. Another approach would be to create a Sub Division plane or a 3d NURBS surface converted to an Interpolated Surface. Add vertices as needed and raise or lower them to simulate the site topography. Post back if you need detailed help with these tools and techniques. And post an example showing how you are getting along with this. Good luck! -B Edited November 27, 2019 by Benson Shaw 1 Quote Link to comment
