laurakukulski
Hi there, I have a site model and I need to create the existing stairs. The stairs are a bit wonky and I am having all kinds of trouble. I'm wondering how other people would approach creating these... I'm new to site modeling and so I am flailing a bit. Would you just create each stair as a pad? Lower left you can see the bit where the stairs are all weird. Thanks! Quote Link to comment
Jonathan Pickup
if you have Vectorworks landmark, you can use the hardscape tool to create the treads. Each tread can be a site modifier. otherwise, create a pad for each tread. remember that pads cannot overlap or touch in plan. 1 Quote Link to comment
jpccrodrigues
Hi guys. Another way to do it is to use the wall tool: each tread is a different wall and you change the width according your drawing. The height is manipulated by the levels of each wall. Hope it helps you!! Quote Link to comment
laurakukulski
@Jonathan Pickup Thanks Jonathan. I am in landmark but have never used the hardscape tool. So I think I will try doing it with pads. I suspect I am just a bit over my ability level with this project... Quote Link to comment
laurakukulski
@jpccrodrigues Can walls touch each other? And would you create a wall by doing this: create rectangle/create object from shape/choose landscape wall or some other way? Thanks so much for your comments Laura Quote Link to comment
jpccrodrigues
Draw the Line -> Right click on the line -> Create Objects from Shapes -> Wall Quote Link to comment

They can touch, you might have a struggle if you have a side wall, it will tend to make a corner on the first or last tread. But it's a matter of trial and error. Quote Link to comment
Jonathan Pickup
if you use walls, they are not site modifiers 1 Quote Link to comment
jpccrodrigues
Hi Jonathan. True, I forgot to tell to use site modifiers (pad or contours) on the top and base of the stairs (creating a steeper slope in the exact area of the stairs in order to be seen). If you don´t do it the stairs will be hidden by the site model. Thanks 1 Quote Link to comment
