Design layer viewport vs sheet layer viewport

Recommended Posts

Greetings,

I'm trying to understand the advantage of a DLV over a SLV. would seem that besides being able to reference other files (which I understand has the potential for big problems) there doesn't seem to be much advantage.

Can someone explain to me the real use of a DLV?

thanks,

M

I haven't used DLVP's as much as I probably could. Other than referencing in Design Layers from other files, my impression is also what zoomer noted and that DLVPs are best suited for sections.

I found this other thread related to your question (Section Viewports on Design Layer vs. Sheet Layer) and it had a good suggestion from Jonathan Pickup:

I would say it depends on the purpose of the section. if you want to create drawings for printing (and the other dressings are set up with viewports on sheet layers), then use sheet layer viewports.

If you want to have a section viewport to help with the design in some way, then a design layer section viewport could be useful.
