zoomer
1. VW's FBX export does not export Symbols as instances but as normal copies. But that is quite important as those files are no more usable in other 3D Apps. And there is no convenient way to replace these copies by instances again. Quote Link to comment

zoomer
Thanks. I think, currently FBX is the most important exchange format to 3D Apps, other than C4D with direct export, but which seems to work in the exact same manner as FBX. (DWG will stay the standard between CAD of course) So here will certainly follow some other things to improve FBX. Generally FBX is the only export that brings proper geometry to f.e. Modo. Meshes are welded, so selectable, and have proper face orientation, no holes, even for extrudes and architectural objects, other than meshes by DWG or DXF (pity). Plus there will come in Materials, Camers, Lights. Not really, as they currently do not allways come in and are not the "same" Materials, Camers, Lights at all. Quote Link to comment
zoomer
My NDA file has went a little bigger meanwhile. Beside that there is one Story only that has to be exported for a VR model, which works well, I'm no more able to export the whole model by FBX. VW gives no message, but you can see the progress bar disappears at one point and I get an FBX with 0 kB. If I watch OS X Activity Monitor, at that time there appears some kind of an error log app for a moment. But I'm not able to find that Error Log to see what the problem could be. Where ist it hidden ? I see no information about that in the normal VW usage and crash logs. The save to Cinema export works without problems. Quote Link to comment
jbtroost
Last week I exported a file as fbx and uploaded it on sketchfab.com, where I tested some settings (textures, lighting). When I try a new export of that file my FBX now is 0k, empty... I didn't change much to the file, other than textures and lighting within VW. What happened? Where did I go wrong? BTW, it's a edu2014 drawing saved as edu2016. Maybe others have the same issues with 'upgraded' files? Cheers, JB Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted March 18, 2016 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted March 18, 2016 Does this happen for any file? Even a test file with a simple extrude in it? If not, send me the affected file at tech@vectorworks.net ATTN Jim and I can have a look. Quote Link to comment
jbtroost
Hi Jim, It appeared I was a little impatient. After 5-10min the file was OK... Cheers, JB Quote Link to comment
